Freedom Home Koh Chang is truly a place that lives up to its name. Nestled in a stunning natural setting, it’s a colorful, creative haven that attracts beautiful, free-spirited souls from all over the world. This was already my fifth stay—and definitely not my last. Over time, this place has become more than just a destination for me—it’s a place I truly call home. Tommy and Mameaw are no longer just hosts; they’ve become real friends over the years. Whether it’s spontaneous late-night rides across the island with Tommy or waking up to Mameaw’s incredibly delicious homemade “breakfast” (which feels more like a feast), every moment here feels personal and unforgettable. We’ve also shared countless outings to amazing local restaurants, where Tommy and Mameaw always know the best spots on the island—resulting in delicious food, great drinks, and fun, laughter-filled evenings together. The lush garden, filled with cozy hammocks, is the perfect spot to unwind with a coffee and simply enjoy the moment. In the evenings, the relaxed atmosphere continues with cold beers and great drinks at very fair prices, making it easy to connect with other travelers. And then there are the two adorable dogs, Lui and Sabai, who completely stole my heart from day one. They bring so much warmth and joy—you just can’t resist them. The rooms and bungalows are charming, comfortable, and more than fairly priced. And if you’re lucky, you might even spot monkeys in the morning while taking a shower—just one of those magical little moments that make this place so special. Tommy’s legendary boat tours are always a highlight, offering unforgettable adventures around the island. And Mameaw’s Khao Soi? Absolutely incredible—worth every single indulgence. Freedom Home isn’t just a place to stay—it’s a feeling, a community, and for me, a true home away from home.

Simply amazing! Arrived after a long 24h trip and were totally exhausted. The host and guests immediatelly served dinner and drinks for us. Afterwards setting together at the lovely Bar with the whole crowd and chatting with some drinks for the whole night! What a warm welcome and pleasant stay ❤️ We come back for sure!

You feel at home here from the very first moment. You should love dogs, nature, and culture — and enjoy meeting other backpackers — then this is exactly the right place for you. Thank you, dear Mameaw and Tommy, for the incredibly warm welcome and the wonderful stay. Big hugs also to Princess Sabay and King Louis — you truly stole my heart 🐾💛 The beach is not far away, there are cute little bars nearby — and the bar right on the property is just perfect for relaxed evenings under the palms. A place to arrive, breathe, and want to stay.

Tommy is an excellent host!

Great location in a cute village, the beach is just a few minutes walk. The rooms are simple, but everything is clean. What makes the place unique are the owners and the atmosphere they create. Great place to meet new people! If you're looking for anonymous luxury, this place is not for you.

The location is amazing and the room at first seemed great as well. The vibe here definitely is a super relaxed one.

Very chill atmosphere, 5 minutes from the beach. The rooms are simple but very clean. The area has lots of space to just hang out and enjoy the sun or shade, whatever you prefer. We went out with the owners once and hada great time, they also make amazing food. I will 100% come again.

Loved my stay at freedome home. It really felt as a home away from home. Lovely and cozy oasis on the more relaxed side of Koh Chang. Come here if you want to make a connection with people and want to be a part of a little community. Don’t come here if you want a silent hotel experience. Accommodation is simple but clean and the vibes are very good. Most people who come here return every year and i can definitely see why! Bang bao beach is just 5 min walk away and so are a few nice restaurants. Best place on Koh Chang!

Very cozy place right next to the jungle. I really enjoyed my time and met amazing people here. Wanted to stay 1 week and ended up staying almost 5. The BBQ's and occasional dinners were fantastic. Tommy and Mameaw are very friendly and kind. I will definetely come back. Highly recommend:-)

We stayed here 8 nights and It was very Nice and chill, our bungalow was big and clean with a sitting area in the front. There is a workout space aswell. The hostel is located in a beautiful area surrounded by the green and very close to the beach. The hosts are very easy-going and welcoming too and will be there to make your stay great and give you Nice tips!

Whether you want to sway in a hammock with a book or just soak in the beauty of Koh Chang, this is the spot to do it. The Food – Oh, the Food! Now, let’s talk about Mameaw’s cooking—because it deserves a review of its own. Everything she makes is packed with flavor, but her Kao Soi? Simply unbeatable. If you haven’t tried it, you haven’t truly lived. And if you have, well… you know why I keep coming back. Good Vibes, Great Nights The bar at Freedom Home is the kind of place where time slows down and good company speeds up. The music is always on point, the drinks are cold, and the conversations flow as freely as the cocktails. It’s the perfect setting for unforgettable nights and meeting fellow travelers with stories to tell. Adventure on the High Seas Tommy’s boat tours are legendary. Every trip is a sun-soaked, laughter-filled, and occasionally “accidentally too much rum”-kind of adventure. And when the day ends with one of his BBQs, you know you’re in for a treat. He knows his way around a grill, and let’s just say… no one goes to bed hungry. More Than Just a Stay With fair prices, an unbeatable atmosphere, and hosts who truly care, Freedom Home isn’t just a place to stay—it’s a place to feel at home.

Everybody wants to live in paradise for free so everybody here as the same idea if they stayed. Round the corner are places that charge 3000baht for 7 nights that are Self contained bungalows with air con with tall bamboo everywhere i felt most ripped off here for the price

Wifi in general was great. The house was large, every spacious but it felt like staying in garage. Nice garden but not much taken care of.

A unique stay in an authentic part of Thailand. Really great spot to relax and enjoy the jungle and beach. Wake up early and watch the monkeys. I recommend having a chat at the bar with Tommy the host. 👍🏝️

I love this place for the jungle aesthetics and comfortable bungalows. Tommy and Mameaw really took good care of me and made me feel at home. They organized trips, cooked delicious Thai dinners and BBQ's. The dogs are very sweet. Regulars have come here for years and have incredible stories. I was crying with laughter almost every evening. I'm a solo traveller and for me this was heaven for generating new encounters and encouraging everyone to hang out. Whether you like sitting at the bar or chilling in a hammock there are many spaces that facilitate new friendships and there's so much knowledge to tap into about what to do on the island. This place is a hub for the adventures you will have on Koh Chang whether it be with new friends you meet at Freedom home or old friends you bring along... or both! Bring good vibes and you will be right at home 🌞
