My stay at Mama Root in Kizimkazi was nothing short of magical. From the moment I arrived, I felt a sense of peace and belonging that is incredibly rare to find when traveling. The house is right by the sea, and waking up to the sound of the waves and the gentle ocean breeze felt like a dream. Every corner of the place radiates warmth, simplicity, and authentic charm. It’s not just a beautiful location — it’s a place with a true soul. What makes Mama Root absolutely unforgettable is Olivia, the heart and soul of this special place. Olivia is one of the sweetest and most welcoming person I have ever met. Her kindness, her genuine smile, and her natural ability to make you feel comfortable create an atmosphere that feels like home from the very first moment. She doesn’t just welcome guests — she makes you feel part of something meaningful. I left a piece of my heart there. This place will stay with me forever, and I know I will never forget the serenity, warmth, and love I experienced. If you are looking for more than just accommodation — if you are looking for a place that truly touches your heart — Mama Root is something incredibly special. I cannot recommend it enough.

Mama Root is in the heart of Kizimkazi and right on the beach offering a great location and very relaxed eco friendly environment for a quiet stay. Mama Root is a great host, and she runs a really great BnB with the option for dinner.

This place definetely stands out as one of my best experiences with regards to rooms and facilities in Zanzibar. Lovely details all over the place and such a lovely staff. So happy i chose this place for my stay in Kizimkazi.

The location was excellent, and I greatly appreciated the transportation service from the ferry to the accommodations. The room was very clean and comfortable, and the board games provided us with fun entertainment options. Also, the food was amazing, very grateful for the experience.

At Mama Root we felt cozy like at home. Being barefoot all the time was therapeutic. Interior design is harmonious with the nature of the lovely Kizimkazi location. Whole outside area is equipped with sitting options for everyone’s taste and is promoting connection and hangouts with other guests. We liked yummy options for lunch and dinner, and the best ever DATE CRUMBLE!

mama root is a real gem with 6 rooms, directly located at the beach in kizimkazi. it is family owned and the guests are treated like family:) we had an amazing and relaxing time and thank olivia and all the wonderful people for making our stay so perfect!! much love 💛 simone & fabian

We found the Paradise and it's at Mama Root. The view is sensational, the hosts are friendly and helpful, food is great. Location can't be better. Just on the beach and at walking distance from some restaurants, dive club, ...

We had an amazing experience at Mama Root! The place is eco-friendly, and everything is handmade with so much care. The food, drinks, and coffee were all incredibly tasty and full of flavor. The view is stunning, making the whole atmosphere even more special. Olivia, the owner, pays great attention to every detail, which really shows in every aspect of the experience. And the dogs – they are absolutely adorable! They watch over the tourists like little guardians, which is both funny and heartwarming. We had a blast and can’t wait to come back. Safae & Ben

The best hotel we stayed in on Zanzibar. Familiar and small hotel. The staff and the owners are very friendly and help with everything. Less touristy and you can lie in peace by the sea and enjoy. The food was amazing, very tasty and very fresh.

Mama Root felt like a home from home. The creative interior and focus on redesign was brilliant. We loved how familiar the place felt. The location was amazing,with the beach basically on your doorstep, the food exceptional and the staff were friendly, helpful and approachable. All in all an amazing place to stay with a great focus on sustainability both locally and globally. We really recommend this place.

Very nice calm place, great to relax and revive

Authentic, relaxing, on the beach. We had bad weather but they have a stack of board games and accommodate you eating inside. The staff are great!

We arrived at Mama Ruth’s with a small group of friends, and from the very beginning, we were taken in by the peaceful surroundings. It’s a perfect place to relax and unwind. If you’re planning to explore other areas, you’ll definitely need to take a taxi, as it’s almost impossible to get anywhere on foot. That didn’t bother us at all – taxis were easy to find, and we were able to visit many beautiful spots nearby. The rooms are on the smaller side, especially if you’re traveling with large suitcases – there’s not a lot of space for luggage. However, everything else was truly wonderful. We added breakfast, lunch, and dinner to our stay, and every meal was delicious – freshly prepared and full of flavor. One of the best parts is that the villa is located right by the sea – there are no streets or obstacles between you and the water. Just step outside and you’re on the beach. The owners live on-site, are incredibly kind, and go out of their way to assist guests with anything they need. It’s a place full of warmth, hospitality, and genuine care – we would absolutely recommend staying here!
