​If you are looking for pure relaxation away from the typical tourist crowds, La La Land Lodge in southeast Zanzibar is an absolute dream. It is tucked away from the busy beaches, offering an extremely peaceful, authentic island vibe that is hard to find elsewhere. ​The lodge is a small, family-run gem, and you can feel the personal touch in everything they do. Our room was comfortable, featuring a terrace right on the ocean. Within 24 hours we were in chill mode, I think this had a lot to do with how remote the location is, just you and nature. Nearest village is a 20 min walk or you can easily get a taxi. Staff are amazing and the food is incredibly good. If you need rest and recuperation then this is the place.

A great place to stay – especially after arriving in Zanzibar after a long journey, to relax and recharge. Peace, quiet, nature, and idyllic surroundings. Built on a cliff, the scenery is breathtaking at any time of day. The garden is lush and full of beautiful plants, and the pool area is perfect, especially at low tide. The sunsets are truly breathtaking, and watching the fishermen under the cliff in the early morning was like watching a tableau. We stayed in a bungalow with a charming terrace. We appreciated the daily drinking water and little home comforts like our own coffee machine and free teas/coffees. The breakfasts were plentiful, always featuring fresh fruit, à la carte options, and a daily little surprise from the kitchen. We also had lunch several times, and every dish prepared by the chef was delicious. There's also a daily special menu that's worth trying! Wonderful people – always warm, friendly, helpful, and a pleasure to chat with. The Maasai team was helpful and reliable, and the cleaning staff were incredibly thorough. A huge thank you also to the wonderful hosts, Frida and Ben. They did a fantastic job creating a wonderful place – their success is undeniable.

Great location..lovely friendly staff..great brekkie and delicious local dinner dishes..I didn’t use pool as sea is so warm when tide is in ..they did a great Christmas Eve buffet dinner and local dancing for the guests including a Christmas tree which was such a lovely touch ..owners have thought of everything ..coffee machine is a great bonus in the room and the crisps are delicious..girls come in and turn down the bed and set up the nets ..the bathroom was huge and had a very tropical feel ..I had a massage 2 days which was amazing ..was sad to leave

“Romantic place by the sea”

Relaxing and romantic place to stay at during a few days. They only have a few rooms which makes the place calm and quiet. There are a lot of seating areas, it never felt crowded or even near it. Not much to do though but relaxing, we stayed for 3 nights which was perfect for us. We enjoyed looking out over the sea at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Beautiful location. Great staff, I particularly liked the girl who worked in the bar/restaurant, she was always happy and humerous and made me really tasty "thickshakes"!

A lovely little hideaway . We stayed in a garden room which was a typical African round bungalow . The owners Frieda and Ben were very accommodating. The staff were all very kind and friendly . Brenda and Howa were exceptional. The breakfast was a Big breakfast lots of fruit followed by eggs any style you wanted ,toast , pancakes . The tea and coffee were served in cups and saucers and teapots. A turn down bed service was unexpected but a thoughtful detail along with the little treats of nuts and crisps in the room . All in all a wonderful find .

“The best 2 weeks of my life”

The property itself is stunning, it’s isolated and luxury, you have a choice of sea view rooms (and you are RIGHT on the sea, waking up to the sea is incredible) or bungalows which make you feel like you’re in a glam jungle - the wildlife noises are so soothing! Everything was extremely clean and the hotel staff are very thoughtful and caring, the rooms are very clean and light, fresh bedding and towels as well as slippers and robes. Tea and coffee in your room etc, and some snacks everyday (really nice snacks too). The rooms are stunning and the views are incredible, I first stayed in the sea view room, I felt like I took myself on a honeymoon. I then returned to LaLa Land after exploring more of the island and stayed in the bungalow, it was amazing. Honestly no matter what room you pick, it’s gonna be incredible. The food is also excellent, (shout out to the chef Mumma G!!!!) she is one of the best cooks I’ve come across, it’s situated in a fishing village so all the fish is freshly caught that day. I’d highly recommend fish dishes! The breakfast is insane, you get a mix of tropical fruits, coffee/tea, fresh juice, eggs/pancakes etc, honestly I’ve never been fed so well! the sunsets are incredible. Now on to the staff and Frida - OH MY GOD THEY ARE ALL ANGELS. I have made such a bond with them, they are very kind, sweet, and so so funny. As a solo traveller they took me in as their own, and I cried when I left. These girls will be in my heart forever and I am planning to return in 2026. Frida… I mean, words can’t describe how amazing she is, she’s just wonderful. Also! They are extremely knowledgeable about the area and island and PLEASE if you are going to book any excursions, do it through them. Not only is it cheaper, less busy with tourists, but you have a much better experience as the locals know where to go for starfish/monkeys/dolphins etc. they really take care of you. I needed cabs, they sorted it. I needed cigarettes, they sorted it.

This property is wonderful, the best we have stayed in on our tour on Zanzibar. The location is stunning, watching the sea come in and out, jumping straight into the sea from the hotel was wonderful. It’s peaceful but has plenty to keep a family entertained. The food was delicious as were the cocktails. Don’t hesitate, book it!

Outstanding hospitality, unique touches to the bungalows, and great staff! It’s not your any other touristy/commercial resort, it has a character that is hard to find nowadays and we haven’t experienced in many places. We didn’t want to leave!!

“Pure magic!”

The ocean room is dreamy, staff fantastic. So peaceful. Special place! The bed is 5 star comfort, the room and bathroom are much bigger than expected. Frida has a wonderful massage hut overlooking the ocean where we had outstanding massages. The food was fresh and delicious. We had rain one evening and had dinner served on our balcony at sunset at no additional charge. The tides make for a unique experience, one moment you swimming right from the hotel steps, next you are walking kilometres to explore the next beach/restaurant. Absolutely fantastic place that we can't wait to come back to. Thanks Lala Land!
