ended up booking MJ Boutique Hotel as a last-minute decision after extending my holiday by five days, and overall it was a bit of a mixed experience. The good points: On arrival, I was warmly welcomed by a lady I assumed to be the owner. I was immediately offered a refreshing ice-cold orange juice during check-in, which was a really nice touch after travelling. I decided to pay a little extra for a sea view room, and I’m very glad I did. Once checked in, she kindly helped carry one of my bags and personally showed me to my room. The room itself was excellent—clearly recently renovated, very clean, and finished to a high standard. The balcony overlooking the sea was a real highlight and made the stay feel extra special. Shortly after arriving, I needed to head out to arrange some diving. She was very helpful and quickly organised a taxi for me, including a stop at a cash machine on the way, which made things much easier. Another standout moment was at check-out. Official check-out time is 12:00, and I came down around 12:15 with my bags as my taxi wasn’t until 5pm. When I asked if I could leave my luggage at reception, she very kindly offered to let me keep the room until 4pm at no extra charge. That was a really thoughtful gesture and very much appreciated. Breakfast was also good, with a freshly cooked option each morning. However, it’s served between 8:00–10:00, which could be a downside if you have early trips planned. I had two dive days with a 7:30 pickup and missed breakfast both times. At most other hotels I stayed at in Thailand, breakfast typically started earlier (around 6:30–7:00), so a slightly earlier option here would make a big difference.

“Nice beach stay; convenient and clean”

Great location (right at the beach), quiet area, friendly staff and nice touches like beach towels, beach mats and flip flops in the room to use. Very clean, good breakfast, bar/restaurant next door and a short walk to other choices and 7-11. A good cafe opposite as well. I only stayed 1 night but a nice place to finish my Thailand trip with easy access to Phuket airport.

Lovely at MJ boutique hotel If you’re looking for that personal touch, this is the place. Jo is incredible, greeting you by name on every occasion, booking taxis (not as easy to use Grab/Bolt here in Koh Lak), but Jo has you covered. The rest of the staff are fabulous, super friendly, and you really are made to feel at home. The room is spacious, beautifully designed, and super clean, with bonus touches like beach mats, towels, and even a beach bag. A TV, you can log into your Netflix and Prime account if that’s your thing. The stunning and quiet beach is a stone’s throw away, and being able to have the doors open all night listening to the sound of the ocean is just idyllic. Enjoying the beautiful views of the ocean morning and evening from your balcony is just incredible.

Great Hotel, rooms are beautiful and fresh. Hotel is located very close to a nice beach, hotel provides beach mats and towels. Breakfast was good and staff is extremely polite and helpful.

The hotel seems to be new, very clean and comfortable, the room is quite big and bed is comfortable. We had everything needed, including beach towels. Breakfast is good and you can ask for small variations - we asked to have vegetables inside our omelette and it was delicious:). And people and very very kind and accommodating. Thanks for all! I loved also the beach in front of the hotel, quiet and beautiful, with good massages and smoothies.
