Overview
Clarion Collection Hotel Bilan is housed in a former county prison, 50 metres from Drottninggatan shopping street in Karlstad. It offers a private prison museum and rooms with free WiFi. All rooms at Hotel Bilan are located in refurbished prison cells. They feature exposed beams and high ceilings. All are equipped with flat-screen cable TVs and work desks. In summer, the garden terrace is a popular meeting place for coffee and drinks. A buffet breakfast and a light evening meal are served every day. The relaxation area includes a sauna. Stora Torget Square is a 4-minute walk away. The Central Station is located 500 metres from the hotel.

The food was good, and it was quite close to town. It was interesting about the history and small museum in the hotel.

A lovely hotel. Good feel. So beautifully clean. Very novel to stay in a prison. Very nicely styled and the incorporation of the history was extremely well done. Bonus with having dinner and breakfast included. Both very good. Would recommend.

Breakfast was OK, but as I am allergic to pork my choices were severely limited, for example there were pancakes which I could have eaten save for that the thongs used to pick them were also used for sausages with pork in them...

“Great value for money for family”
Clean, good size rooms, perfect for family . We asked for an extra bed (foldable) which they provided both times without issue. Half-voard included and meals were surprisingly good. Considering price. We used a stop over while traveling to and from ski resort further north. Not far from highway. Parking close , free if given ticket from hotel

“A comfortable quiet night after a delicious on-site dinner.”
The location is very convenient to the station, the room was quiet (those prison walls), and everything was very comfortable. Best of all, the breakfast and dinner provided as half board were totally delicious and substantial and served on a restaurant-style dining room.

When I checked out the man at reception was very helpful and kind when I asked if I could pack my car and have breakfast before leaving. Had a nice conversation with him and now want to come back and stay again
