It was a beautiful property in a lovely historic part of town. The food was excellent, the staff were gracious and very attentive.

Yamanoo was in a beautiful location right at the edge of the Higashi Chaya District. We explored before and after check in. The meals at Yamanoo were also amazing. We had a 9 course meal for dinner and a huge spread of various small plates for breakfast. The room itself was gorgeous with an excellent view over the district. The staff were super friendly and even set the futon beds up for us while we were at dinner. We totally underestimated the futon but it was incredibly comfortable!

“Perfect way to taste Japanese hospitality”

This is a wonderful ryokan hotel where excellent service is at the heart of the experience. Location just on the edge of the historical area is ideal place to base. Kanazawa castle and garden 20 min walk - which are fabulous visits. The room is authentic Japanese style. Loved the space, facilities and ability to stay so different from a normal hotel. Dress for dinner wearing the supplied yakata’s - gets you in the mood. Staff collect you for dinner which you eat in a private room with a dedicated hostess. YOKO, served us our dinner both nights. A wonderful caring/attentive lady and we shared some fun. Awesome! Food here is amazing. 8 course dinner which was at Michelin star level. Wonderful fresh fish/seafood/beef/ vegetables. Washed down with recommended Sake. We tried things not tasted before and loved every course. Breakfast was spectacular too - very different to western gourmet. Authentic healthy and tasty. Each course is fully explained too, in English, which shows the effort the staff went to. Salute the friendly and talented chef! We were nervous trying this but so pleased we did. Fantastic opportunity to savour true Japanese style. Thanks to the Yamanoo team! Highly recommended.

An unforgettable Ryokan experience that will remain etched in our memories. The culinary offerings—both dinner and breakfast—were exceptional, crafted with care and tradition. We had the distinct honor of being served by the fifth-generation chef of this family-run establishment, which has been in operation since around 1890. Surprisingly, sleeping on a futon was remarkably comfortable, adding to the authenticity and charm of our stay.

Beautiful ryokan just above Higashiyama with friendly staff, gorgeous rooms and lovely views overlooking Kanazawa. Dinner was tasty and the breakfast was very nice too, served in a room with garden views. Very charming!

Love Yamanoo, one of the most beautiful Ryokans I stayed in Japan. Just 4 rooms in middle of the Kanazawa old town. The room is simple and clean. The bath is newly renovated and I loved the design. The most stunning thing during the stay is the food. Kindly of Michelin starred level and with much love for plates and details. Totally in love!

Everything was impeccable, quite possibly the best accommodation we have stayed in. The meals in particular were prepared with great finesse using the freshest ingredients. Nothing to fault.
