“A must stay while in Kanazawa”
Kanazawa was the highlight of our trip and part of the reason was due to our exceptional stay at Sumiyoshiya. Having previously stayed in a ryokan as a couple prior to kids, we really wanted our children to be able to experience it too. This was even better than our expensive ryokan stay in Kyoto as a couple many years ago. Our whole family loved it! We were a little concerned about how noisy our children can be, and the delicate nature of parts of our room, but thankfully it was all fine. When booking, we booked a room with the private bathroom and were hoping to squeeze an extra futon in. Instead, the staff offered us another room (shared bathroom type) without an additional fee! It was so generous of them! As others have said, the photos don't do justice to how beautiful this accommodation is. I wish I had taken better photos to remember it. Our shared bathroom room looked out onto a beautiful old tree in the courtyard. The private bathroom room looked out onto the street. Both had heaters to keep it warm, however it was a bit chilly getting up in the night if you needed the bathroom, especially in the courtyard room. The staff absolutely went above and beyond to help with all the big and little things to make our stay so memorable. We all loved coming back from the day of sightseeing to fresh tea and treats. We had hoped to have dinner there, but it wasn't available during our stay. Instead we received a thoughtful list of places suitable for our family and they made a booking at an exceptional local restaurant. It was a lovely short walk in the snowfall to dinner and home again. The kids enjoyed the wearing the yukata and soaking in the onsen. We all loved how spacious it was. Both western and Japanese breakfasts were delicious with ingredients fresh from the markets. Sumiyoshiya was superbly located right next to the markets and close to buses and other sights. We loved Sumiyoshiya and Kanazawa and will definitely be back to stay here again.

“Clean, comfortable and friendly”
The ryokan was really clean and comfortable. I got a room with my own bathroom. The staff was very friendly and even gave me an umbrella on a day I did not know it will rain. The Japanese breakfast was delicious. The location is also good with around 15 minutes walking to all important sightseeing spots.

“A beautiful traditional Ryokan in the heart of Kanazawa.”
A beautiful traditional Ryokan in the heart of Kanazawa. 2 mins walk to the market, and close to many beautiful small streets with izakayas and restaurants. Also close to the castle and gardens. The staff were very friendly and the rooms were clean, warm and comfortable.

Very attentive, kind, and helpful staff. Very comfortable room and futon. Best bathtub I’ve ever used (perfect depth and length for me). Definitely the best value for money accommodation we booked on our entire 3 week trip. I wasn’t expecting the amazing room for the price we paid
