This was, without question, one of the most special places we have ever stayed. From the moment we arrived, it was clear how much love, care, and attention has gone into both the home itself and the experience of staying here from the wonderful host Hitty. The house is absolutely beautiful - full of history, warmth, and thoughtful detail - and made our time in Japan feel genuinely unique and unforgettable. Alongside this, it’s spacious, comfortable and has every facility a guest could need. We happened to get engaged during our trip, and the kindness and generosity shown to us by Hitty to celebrate this completely blew us away. He went so far above and beyond to make this moment feel personal and memorable, and we were deeply touched by the warmth and hospitality we experienced throughout our stay. More than just accommodation, this felt like being welcomed into somewhere truly meaningful. It became one of the highlights of our entire trip and somewhere we know we will remember for the rest of our lives. Thank you again for such an extraordinary experience. SO glad we added a stay at Kanazawa Machiya Kenroku to our Japan itinerary - what a lovely chance to slow down a bit at the end of a packed few weeks and feel at home as we explored the city. Would recommend to anyone looking to visit Kanazawa! ❤️ Hitty is such a lovely host. He was in touch in advance to make sure we were ready ahead of our arrival and was waiting at the property when we got there. We can't overstate how warm and welcoming he was. Not only did he walk us through the property and local area, but he took the time to have a genuine conversation with us, sharing his family's stories, the history of Kanazawa, showing us a series of family heirlooms, and even giving us a beautiful gift. The property itself is charming; a little piece of old Kanazawa, like you'll see in the wider Samurai district further into town. It's cosy and homely and you'll find yourself moving around with a sense of reverence as every little nook tells a story. But it also has everything you'll need for a comfortable stay, from a nice powerful shower to a full kitchenette, TV, air con/heating in all the main areas, etc.

It has character, charm and excellent facilities. A wonderful, warm host, Hitty was on hand to talk me through the check in process, explaining the house to me, its history and amenities. In addition to taking the time to recommend places and restaurants in Kanazawa. A wonderful host and a wonderful stay.

Everything about our stay was exceptional. Such an honour to stay in a place with so much history. Hitty (the owner) is a relative of the samurai that lived in this home and is so generous and attentive. We will definitely be coming back to kanazawa and definitely stay here. Loved it.

The host Hitty was amazing - told us all about the history of the house. The house itself was amazing and a great base for a week in Kanazawa. Amazing shower and bath. Nice thick futons. Great location, in a walkable location to the train, buses, food, 7-11.

The host, Hitty, was so welcoming and responsive. He shared some great local recommendations and was able to meet us at the house at the time we needed. The house itself is very comfortable even in the cold weather as you can control the heating everywhere. Very comfortable futons which was a welcome surprise as sometimes they can be too firm!

The property was fantastic - spacious, clean, comfortable and the most interesting place we have stayed in Japan.

The property was close to the train station and very easy to access. Hitty was an amazing host and led us through an introduction on the history and memorabilia contained in his ancestral home.

“Unforgettable experience.”

This hotel was one of our most memorable parts of the trip, with the property being amazing, beautiful and clean with all the necessary amenities provided. Hitty-san, our host, gave us a tour of the property which was enriched with history being 300 years old from the Edo period. It was formerly owned by his Ancestors as well and Hitty-san showing us his precious family heirlooms that he has kept made the experience even more memorable. Hitty-san was also very knowledgeable about the area, providing us recommendations on locations to visit in Kanazawa. Hitty-san was also very responsive, and offered recommendations to local restaurants depending on which cuisine we were craving and called them up to reserve seats for us, in which we thoroughly enjoyed eating at. He also recommended us a way to get to Takayama from Kanazawa when we asked him about it, even calling up Taxi companies on our behalf to try to get it booked. Hitty-san had also left us parting gifts, in which we are so ever thankful for and will remind us forever of our stay at the property. The hospitality and service provided by Hitty-san will never be forgotten, it was unique compared to any other stay we had in Japan and we honestly wished we had booked more nights at Kanazawa Machiya Kenroku. If you are looking to visit Kanazawa, this is 100% the property to book for a group of friends or family and if we ever visit again, we will definitely make sure to book with this property!

The location in relation to the train station is very good, only a short walk. The interior is very well appointed, underfloor heating. Very clean bedding

Hitty was a great host and gave us a great tour of the house. The facilities were great, especially the laundry, bathroom and the thick futons. Lots of personal touches in the house, like the ikebana Hitty's wife had made and the fresh sweets which made our stay extra special. Staying at this machiya was certainly one of the highlights of our trip!
