The breakfast was superb, which has been commented on by other visitors, is served in a tatami room. The location is a five minute walk from the train station, so very convenient. The hostess is absolutely charming and she works hard to ensure you have a good stay. The bathroom/wetroom was clean and modern and worked well. If you are looking for a big hotel with a very wide range of facilities then you are probably better off choosing a hotel chain. If you want a taste of real Japan, with a high level of personal service, then this is the place for you.

“Outstanding Hotel with a Great host where you could stay for ever”

The most outstanding Hotel we had on our 6 Week Japan Trip. Ryoko as a host is so supportive and her hospitality is outstanding. Breakfest was the best ever with high quality bread, fruits and sweets etc. The room was a suite with so much space and View to a small but beautiful Garden.

A wonderful welcome from the owner. A beautiful suite decorated in traditional Japanese style but with modern touches. Fresh flowers in the entrance, a beautiful garden. The breakfast was excellent too.

“Outstanding Luxury and Comfort”

Ryoko our host was incredible, from meeting at the train station offering a free shuttle service, she was charming and incredibly respectful. The property is homely, warm and even more beautiful than the images. The property is super luxurious and stylish and restored to the highest level with outstanding traditional Japanese craftsmanship. It felt like we stayed in a property that would feature in a Kinfolk Magazine, that is how contemporary stylish and beautiful this charming property is. The zen like qualities made us feel calm and relaxed from the moment we stepped foot inside. Everything we needed to hand. The beds superbly comfortable with luxurious bedding. The bathroom stylish yet comfortable and luxurious overlooking the zen garden, having a soak in the temperature controlled bath tub was exactly what we needed after a long and exhausting journey. Ryoko offered a free laundry service. It was not only kind but very helpful. The breakfast served daily in Angolo Cafe situated at the front of the property was delicious. She kept the menu interesting with daily different offerings of outstanding quality food. The coffee is unbelievable! Even the WiFi was on point. We cannot recommend this property enough. We are so glad this was our first property and stay in Japan, best choice. Would stay here again. Location is perfect. 10 minutes walk from train station, 10 minutes walk to Omichi Market.

Ryoko was an amazing host. She picked us up from the train station, and we had daily breakfasts hosted by her out of her cafe with unlimited espresso beverages :O On top of this all, we were there as a family with my toddlers and they were both smitten by her hospitality and missed her when we left Kanazawa. The hotel is a recently historic Japanese home which was a beautiful setting nestled next to a peaceful courtyard garden. We would love to come back!

“Best accomodation I have ever stayed in. Just as beautiful as pictures suggest (if not more)”

This was truly the best accomodation we have ever stayed in and for sure the best during our 3 weeks travel across Japan. The accomodation basically consists of a two floored house (so much space is so rare in Japan), with a beautiful modern bathroom on ground level including a bathtube facing out to a wonderful zen garden. The main rooms are on the first floor with a massive living room, a tatami room and a bedroom with the biggest and most comfortable bed. All rooms were spotless clean, bathrobes and pyjamas were offered. The bedroom view and balcony to the zen garden outside created a lovely and relaxing atmosphere. One of the best things definitely was the breakfast which is provided in an extra breakfast room downstairs at the café (which you cannot here from the flat) - not only is the room beautiful and very special but the breakfast itself was absolutely delicious: every day different sorts of freshly baked bread, incredibel pastries (so pretty!), fresh fruit and vegetables created in the most delicious and delicate way. We couldnt have asked or wished for more. On top of all this is Ryoko as lovely, welcoming and very thoughtful and caring host (pick up service from the train station, extra blankets unasked when the weather turned colder). This accomodation made our trip to Kanazawa extra special and unforgettable!

“Amazing stay - a real highlight”

We visited Kanazawa purely to stay at Hotel 101. We were looking for traditional accommodation with some familiar creature comforts - and wow! This old Japanese house is very spacious, has been expertly restored and retains its exquisite features. The bed was the most comfortable we have slept in, the Japanese garden was delightful, and the bathroom and shower were perfect. Ryoko was a wonderful host and concierge, and helped us plan our trip so nicely. Breakfast was a real treat, and dinner at Origo (the restaurant downstairs) was a highlight. We felt very comfortable, relaxed and very well looked after - wish we had more time here! Two nights was not enough and we would love to come back.

We could not have chosen a better place for our trip to Kanazawa. The apartment featured a modern yet traditional Japanese design, with the best cafe in all of Japan just downstairs. The photos don’t do it justice; it was truly one of the nicest places we stayed during our trip in Japan.

The hotel was incredible and the room, was the most beautiful place we stayed in Japan. The staff was kind and went out of their way to make our stay exceptional. The breakfast was also truly amazing in a beautiful private traditional Japanese room.

The staff are helpful and warmly welcoming . The room is amazing with beautiful garden view and western style washing room which equipments are new. Breakfast is delicious and both the bakery and coffee are amazing.

“Go to Kanazawa if not just to stay here”

Everything about this stay was IMPECCABLE with not a detail spared to ensure you have the most comfortable stay. The stay is actually the upper-level + back room behind a gorgeous cafe/restaurant within a machiya (traditional townhouse); so you get the whole accomodation to yourself! Beautiful traditional details including tatami mats, screen doors & a tranquil inner garden; paired with modern comforts — gorgeous bathroom and bed. The hoast was incredible, giving great restaurant recommendations & serving the most delicious breakfasts every morning. We loved this stay and will certainly be back.

Absolutely everything! There’s no amount of superlatives that would best explain just how good this accommodation is. The staff were incredible, very professional, generous and friendly. They went above and beyond to make our stay the best it could be. They provide a private room for breakfast, complimentary drinks for the duration of stay and even laundry service was included. The room was absolutely incredible. So luxurious with all the moment features you could want but still feeling like a traditional Japanese townhouse. I have stayed in some amazing accommodations before but this place was next level. I really hope to can but to this place one day.

What a beautiful place to stay in Kanazawa, off the main areas so quiet but within walking distance of the station. Delightful accommodation, traditional in style, in pristine condition. And absolutely wonderful staff. Amazing!

“Lovely stay”

Beautiful property with many original features. The set up - two bedrooms with sliding doors closing them off, and separate living area - worked well for parents travelling with kids. Breakfast was wonderful. Check and and check out were super smooth. Wish we had booked the restaurant for dinner!

I booked Hotel 101 simply because it was so well reviewed by others. Did it live up to my very high expectations ? ABSOLUTELY 100% Special mention to the lovely helpful staff for which nothing was too much trouble. And yes, the included breakfast and coffee is as wonderful as everyone says it is and exquisitely presented. Just one word is needed to sum up my stay: PERFECT….

Decoration, building, distribution of the rooms and the facilities options. I love the transition between the spaces and how spacious everything feels. They put a lot of care into details and the place is just a gem. I highlight as well both the cafe shop and the owners themselves. Both were really wonderful.
