“Take Me Back!!”
I felt really privileged to be able to stay at Pongyi. It's an old Kimono shop that's been beautifully restored and has many tasteful furnishings that add to it's unique appeal. Nina (hostess) is such a lovely warm person - she makes everyone feel welcome and is helpful with local information. We stayed in the Japanese style room and the futon beds were super comfy. (Thank you Nina for helping to get our luggage up the narrow staircase.) It's also only a 10 minute walk from the main Kanazawa train station and a 15 minute walk to Omicho market.

“Extraordinary local Japanese experience”
I was impressed by the story of this guesthouse (read a short book inside). You should come not for a night stay but for longer to fully enjoy this experience. The host is sweet, friendly and everything is next-level clean. Every corner is taken care of and has a story to tell. The room was a traditional one (no food, no drinks allowed). Small shared spaces and friendly tourists around.

“Cosy, comfy, incredible hosts with local knowledge”
Charming and cosy, the bed was super comfy and the whole place was pleasant and clean. However, the highlight of my stay was the family vibe of the guesthouse, with the owner carrying out workshops on aspects of Japanese culture. It was a lovely and friendly social hub

“A home away from home in Kanazawa”
I had a wonderful stay at Pongyi and felt truly welcomed from the moment I arrived. Nina-san was incredibly kind, attentive, and always available if needed. She even organized activities to help us discover Japanese culture, especially the local culture of Kanazawa, which made the experience even more special ✨ I immediately felt at home thanks to the warm and family-like atmosphere. It’s by far the best guesthouse I’ve ever stayed in, I highly recommend it without hesitation

“Amazing Guesthouse”
Incredible stay. Niina is so lovely, super friendly and welcoming. The bed was the best bed I’ve slept in in a hostel, great mattress and even better duvet and pillow. Niina holds events in the evening to bring people together, it was so wholesome. The guesthouse is spotless and feels like home. Pongyi guesthouse was such a highlight of my Japan trip.

“Learning my Kanji name and making origami cranes. I never thought I would do this in Japan but I did it here.”
Nina was an excellent host and I had a special time here learning a lot about Japan and Japanese culture here which I wouldn’t get to experience in most other places.

“Yes, yes and yes!”
We loved every aspect of our stay, which gave us the chance to connect with and learn more deeply about Japanese culture! We stayed in a private room, and everything was perfect. Ms. Nina and Mrs. Masaki shared so much about their country and culture, and we had the wonderful opportunity to join them in a Japanese origami and calligraphy class, as well as preparing a dinner together with onigiri, tamagoyaki, and mochi. Nina has a unique talent for creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere among guests from different countries, and she is an endless source of tips and advice about the city. Seeing her smiling every time we returned made our experience in Kanazawa one of the highlights of our trip! We truly hope to come back soon :)

“The highlight of my trip.”
I've loved each hotel I've stayed at in Japan but this went far beyond every other place. The staff here, Masaki-san and Nina-san, were the best hosts. There was an optional evening activity that all of the guests joined in for and they shared so much about the culture and about the location we were in. We got to know one another and learn about Japan while having fun. My sister and I loved the trip to Japan, but this place made me want to come back just to stay here again. The room was small but cozy and perfect- the guest house used to be a kimono shop and it holds so much charm. They provided tea, snacks and any amenities we needed. It was clean and comfortable, plus in a great location. with lots of food nearby. I cannot recommend this place enough.

“Origami, Tea & Great company”
I had such a wonderful time spending an evening with fellow travelers, making origami and sipping on warm tea. The atmosphere was so relaxing and inviting, and the space itself was incredibly clean and well organised. Nina san was the perfect hostess: welcoming, kind, and always ready to help with a smile. It was truly a pleasure to experience this little hidden gem and I’m so glad I had the chance to get to know it. If you find yourself in Kanazawa, I highly recommend stopping by, you won’t regret it! :)

“Great place to stay!”
Nina-san was a lovely host! I had a great time at the hostel with the other guests, and Nina-san hosted small workshops in the evenings and gave us pointers on what was worth checking out in the town. The hostel itself is located in a short walking distance to the train station, making it very convenient.

“A cozy, quiet and traditional experience!”
It was a very cozy and small guesthouse. It felt very traditional and it was easy to be social with the other guests since Nina-San made an effort to include everyone. She even hosted activities in the evenings!

“Homestay guesthouse that lingers in the memory”
You don't come here for the beds or the showers, you come to meet the couple managing the place. Every night the owner sits with the guests and teaches them about origami and calligraphy and Japanese things, and he learns about your things. It's a homestay, in a wonderful historic house, with tatami and decorations. Location? If you ask what is the best scenic to reach the center my answer to anybody would be "start from the Pongyi Guesthouse and follow the canal". This is the kind of place that can change your perspective in your trip.

“Peaceful, welcoming, and wonderfully located”
I feel truly lucky to have had the chance to stay at Guest House Pongyi ! Nina-san is a wonderful host and does an exceptional job making the guests feel at home. I was traveling solo so I was very happy to participate in the group activities and connect with the other travelers. The facilities are incredibly clean, well-maintained, and cozy. It was so pleasant to read and relax in the common spaces with a cup of tea. The guest house is in a great location, not far from the train station and a short and pleasant walk away from all Kanazawa has to offer. I loved walking along the canal into town. I stayed in the private room and absolutely loved it. It's very spacious for one person, the futon was very comfortable, and it was beautifully decorated. Upon request, Nina-san will make a breakfast sandwich and a cup of coffee for guests at a very reasonable price. They were excellent!! Overall a wonderful stay that made my time in Kanazawa feel very special.
