“Friendly home stay vibe - excellent value for money”
We opted for a room with aircon rather than a bungalow with just a fan which made our stay more comfortable. Mr and Mrs Leng were brilliant and looked after us really well. Simple breakfast and evening meals for days we didn’t go out to eat were tasty. Sky bar is a great place to relax with a view of the river. Thank you to Mr Leng who took us out in his tuk tuk for various short tours all an adventure and arranged others we wanted to do! Fish Island is a short tuk tuk ride into town.

“Superb”
We yesterday left Fish Island Bungalows after 8 days there and it was one of our most enjoyable stays ever whilst travelling SE Asia. Our room was simply furnished with a large comfortable bed, a fridge, a kettle and very good air conditioning which kept the room at a perfect temperature for sleeping. Plenty of electrical sockets were available and the lighting was also good. The bathroom was equipped with a good hot shower and the outside terrace was spacious with decent furniture and the surrounding gardens are really nice and very well maintained. Tea, coffee and drinking water are provided and water bottles can be refilled freely at 2 water stations. The location is excellent, an easy 20 minute or so walk into town along the side of the river where, in the evening, the friendly locals set up their stalls and several will say hello as you pass by. In other reviews there are some mentions of noise but I can honestly say that during our stay we weren't disturbed at all. On one occasion there was some daytime music that I learned from Mr Leng was due to the passing of a local person and is part of the culture so it would be rather ignorant and intolerant to criticise under those circumstances. What made our time here particularly good was our host Mr Leng. He is a real character, a great ambassador for the Fish Island community (of which he seems to know just about everyone!) and takes a genuine pride in his resort and in ensuring that your stay is an enjoyable one. The tours he offers in his remorque are very good and at very little cost. We did the sunset island tour, we went to see the bioluminescent plankton and he also took us to see his friend who makes palm sugar. It was all really interesting and great fun, hearing him sing as he rode, along with his funny stories. At the end of our stay we sat down to sort out the bill and he asked me what we'd had as he is so laid back and trusting in your honesty.

Mr Leng is an exceptional host with good English. He really is a positive person, we felt very welcomed in his homestay, from the welcome board at the front with my name written on it, to his cheerful hellooo everytime he sees you and his genuine happy demeanour. No problem is too much to sort out. He helped with onward travel, tours advice, moped hire and his 5pm tuk tuk tour (now 2$) is a must do; he sings as he drives, waves and greets people as he goes and the salt fields at sunset are just magical. Mr Leng gave us a rendition of his sunset song in his resturant on request, which was absolutely wonderful, he has a very good singing voice. Mrs Leng is also very kind and welcoming and is the main cook in the restaurant, the food is good quality, she helped us buy locally made palm sugar and with answering our questions about the moped hire. We stayed at Fish Island Bungalows in February, we were able to chose one of the more modern bungalows rather than the more attractive, rustic looking bungalows which helped a lot with mosquito limitation. The roof top terrace bar is a lovely place to sit and to view the river, listen to local life. Each room also has an outside space overlooking the lovely green and well cared for garden. Mr Leng can tell you the history of each plant in the garden. It's a nice space to be in. This homestay is in a local community rather than the main part of the town which will suit some people and not others. Getting a tuk tuk is not difficult for the short drive. We did walk it once but the tuk tuk is easier for tired legs. We hired one of the guest house mopeds which was good value and worked well, we enjoyed exploring the tiny lanes on Fish Island. Helmets were included in the hire.

“Charming village bungalows”
The bungalows are super charming and the area has a village feel although only a 15 minute walk from town over the “old bridge”. The bedrooms come with fans and mosquito nets. The breakfast is not included but good value for $3/$3.75 depending on the option. The coffee is really good and the home made pineapple, mango and passion fruit with pepper is lovely. The roof terrace is beautiful and you can have a drink while looking at the river and town lights at night. Mr Leng and his wife are super helpful. Highly recommended and great value for money.

“Lovely family feel with all you need”
Well kept and clean bungalows. Spacious. Large bathroom. Air con and fridge. In house restaurant. Lots of cats. Incredibly decent and genuine owners. Helped us a lot with booking onward travel, were happy to extend our stay and sorted motorbike hire for us! Would definitely recommend this place.

Mr Leng welcomed us very warmly and made sure we had everything to enjoy our stay. The breakfast was very good and can be taken on the rooftop or in the room downstairs which is also very nice. A bit far from Kampot centre but can be easily reached with a tuk-tuk. Very good price for money overall

“We loved it here”
We stayed two nights and we wished we had been able to stay longer. The rooftop was wonderful at sunrise, Mrs Leng took care of our laundry and we felt absolutely at home. Mr Leng was a legend, best homestay host ever. Right next to the most beautiful temple, not far from anything. A wonderful couple of days.

“Fantastic homestay in Kampot”
It was really a privilege to stay with Mr & Mrs Leng. Such a wonderful welcome and they looked after us so well during our stay. The room was great, breakfast was too. Such a homely atmosphere. We loved it. And Mr Leng gave me a lift back from the market when I saw him in the morning before he made coffee with my wife!

“The stay was almost like in the family, very beautiful place and very kind owners🙏”
Wooden bungalow is spacious and cozy; I like the wooden houses in general. There are the tables inside and outside (wooden too). I choised to stay here especially of a garden, in real it is more beautiful that I thought: there are orchids and the place is so green. Mr Legn and his wife Linn are so gentle and helpful. Thank you very much I had not a time to say Goodbye but probably I come back:) And another + The "French" type breakfast was a tasty, coffee , croissant, fruit also what I like. The bathroom is big, clean, the water in the shower warm. The matress on the bed is high quality, the pillow is comfortable too. The restaurant is cozy too (if you go upstairs, can see a rooftop view). Near the Fish Bungalow there is a Buddhist Pagoda. It is not in a centre of Kampot but very great placed to see a Pagoda!

“A wonderful stay in Kampot”
I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a host as welcoming and helpful as Mr. Leng. He takes great pride in the service and organised an amazing day trip around the Kep National Park, crab market and pepper plantation for me. I stayed in a rustic but charming bungalow. The location is by a river and you may need to wear insect repellent and use the mosquito net at night. There were not many inspects during my stay in early December. I enjoyed the morning chorus of cock-a-doodle-doo by several cockerels which was my prompt to get up and go for one of Mr Leng’s delicious breakfasts with an amazing coffee and first class omelette. I wore ear plugs to block out noise such as from barking dogs which is fairly common in Cambodian cities. It’s easy to get into central Kampot, a 20 minute walk along the river and over the motorbike bridge. In the evening it’s really scenic with the multitude of lights. A tuktuk back is about $1.50. Overall, a great stay and many happy memories. Thank you Mr. Leng!
