We were generally very lucky with the properties we chose in Sri Lanka and the service they provided, but this place was truly on another level. The owners (with excellent English) and the staff were exceptional and took such great care of us throughout our stay. We felt like we had discovered a hidden paradise—truly the cherry on top at the end of our trip. Every time we think about our stay in Sri Lanka, these moments come to mind and bring a big smile to our faces, making us want to return. The atmosphere was quiet and deeply relaxing—the perfect escape from the chaotic world. We sincerely hope to have the chance to come back one day :)

Everything. It’s a wonderful place and I wish we had stayed more than three nights. The owners have a real vision and their care for the environment really stands out in a country where plastic bottles are such a problem. The food is amazing. I recommend the large prawns with mashed potato which is one of the best things I have ever eaten. The pool is lovely. The rooms are comfortable.

Just paradise, perfect for unwinding and kitesurfing. School is right next to it. Food and service is incredible. Felt like being at home, but better 😁 Got spoiled for the rest of my trip!

First review I’m making - but it’s a unicorn so couldn’t not. Incredible value for money; accommodation is cosy, clean and beach huts have great views. At least, or even more important, is the hospitality and customer focus of the 2 owners, Shibi and Dinesh. They care about what they do and are great human beings. Stop scrolling and book this stay!

Set in a small coconut plantation beside a lagoon, Anawasal is an ideal Sri Lankan retreat Shibi and Dinesh are amazing hosts, nothing is too much to make your stay comfortable and relaxing We met lovely fellow travellers around the table while eating the most delicious meals

We had an excellent stay at Dinesh & Shibi’s place! The location is very peaceful, authentic, and beautiful. The pool is clean and really enjoyable. The room is perfect, with a private bathroom outside. Taking a shower in the sunshine was such a lovely experience. The shower gel that smelled like holidays was the cherry on top. Breakfast is generous and delicious. We also chose to have dinner at the camp in the evenings, and it was perfect. The fish was exquisite, and finishing with a cinnamon tea was just ideal. Overall, we ate extremely well. All the staff are super friendly and attentive. It’s truly the perfect chill spot for kitesurfing. Thank you so much, Dinesh, for being such a welcoming host. If we travel to Sri Lanka again, we will definitely come back.

What a beautiful setting in Kalpitiya, Anawasal is magical haven! The cabanas give you enough space and privacy whilst the central chillout zone allows you to socialise and enjoy the amazing breakfasts and Sri Lankan curries for lunch/dinner! The bikes, kayak, paddle boards and swimming pool are an added bonus - we absolutely loved taking these out to explore the lagoon. Shibi, Dhinesh and all the wonderful staff make you feel at home, safe and welcomed, like a part of a family. We kitesurfed next door at Rascals every day which was awesome, and enjoyed two of Shibi’s yoga classes on the deck on the lagoon. Shibi helped to organise so many logistics for us to get there and for our onward journey. We are so grateful to have found this beautiful place with such wonderful people.

“Really relaxing stay at the end of our trip. Would recommend.”

Fantastic location and incredibly friendly and helpful staff. We stayed for three nights at the end of a hectic tour of Sri Lanka and were able to relax. The location is a somewhat remote and the lagoon is not suitable for swimming but there was a complimentary paddle board and kayak and you could also arrange a boat to a beach and mangrove tour.

Absolutely amazing place! The most friendly and attentive owners and staff we've ever experienced! They treated us with a perfect balance between giving us privacy and space to relax while being attentive to our needs, felt like home in the best way! Gorgeous location and facilities in peaceful surroundings, delicious local food, great yoga on the jetty. Great place for kitesurfing, the free boat transfer as well as the paid trips to different kite spots with the place best door works smoothly. We were only supposed to stay here 5 nights, but have decided to come back for an extra 4 nights at the end of our trip. The highest of reccomendatons from us! Do NOT miss out on this slice of paradise!

“The BEST start to our adventure in Sri Lanka”

Wow! Just spent 3 nights here. FANTASTIC hosts, staff, food and location! I had 3 yoga lessons. Shivi is an EXCELLENT teacher - yoga at sunset on a jetty over a lagoon was magical. Every meal was DELICIOUS! Wonderful staff. The cabana was clean and comfortable facing the lagoon. Really didn't want to leave. Thoroughly recommend!

Our stay at Anawasal Resort in Kalpitiya was truly unforgettable. This charming, nature-inspired resort offers a perfect balance of relaxation, adventure, and authentic Sri Lankan hospitality. The resort is located right at a stunning lagoon, providing a peaceful and scenic atmosphere. While the long, sandy beaches are about a 20-minute drive away, getting there is easy with a driver arranged by the resort, as ride-hailing apps like PickMe don’t always work in the area. The beaches are untouched, with no hotels around, making them perfect for a quiet swim or a long, peaceful walk. If you visit in March, the weather is hot and humid, with calm waves ideal for swimming. However, from December to February, this area is a famous destination for kite surfers and surfers. One of the highlights of our stay was the free access to stand-up paddleboards (SUP) and kayaks, allowing us to explore the lagoon in the early morning or late afternoon when the temperature was cooler. The resort also offers bicycles for rent for free, making it easy to explore the surroundings at your own pace. The small pool in the garden was another unique feature. The ground around the pool is covered in soft sand, so you can walk barefoot, giving a real island vibe to the experience. It’s a perfect spot to cool off and relax after a day of activities. We stayed in a beautifully designed cottage that was both clean and comfortable, equipped with air conditioning to ensure a restful sleep. The most unforgettable part of our accommodation was the outdoor shower under the palm trees. At first, I was a little unsure about showering outside, but the lighting, privacy, and clean and natúral temperature water made it an incredible experience—one of the best showers I’ve ever had, right under the open sky! Since the resort is surrounded by nature, you’ll hear the sounds of various animals, making you feel as if you’re deep in the jungle.

“Paradise!”

Our stay at Anawasal was absolutely incredible !! The place is stunning, right in front of a peaceful and beautiful lagoon. The village feels very authentic, far from mass tourism. The rooms are clean, and the outdoor bathroom is beautiful. The food was always delicious, and Shibi and Dinesh were incredible welcoming and attentive hosts. We loved exploring the surroundings on the bikes and kayaks available for guests, the morning yoga sessions with Shibi, and kitesurfing at Rascals (next door). Thank you again for the stay!

The property is stunning. The owners Dinesh and Shibi share their home with travellers and make them feel more than welcome, caring for your every need and making sure you have a wonderful time. I unfortunately was sick when I was there so I couldn't make use of the bicycles and kayaks, but I also enjoyed my time resting with a stunning view over the lagoon. The food is fresh and delicious, always made from scratch. Definitely recommend to stay at Anawasal!

The accommodation is great with outside seating as well as the communal areas and the pool to enjoy.Our 4 nights will remain one of our Sri Lanka highlights and did I mention the morning yoga session on the pier or the bikes and canoe….
