Overview
Set in the town of Kalkar Appeldorn in the scenic Lower Rhine region, this carefully renovated, 13th-century castle boasts elegant rooms with amenities and a unique historic ambience. One of the region’s oldest castles, the Burg Boetzelaer is surrounded by an idyllic lake and park. The well-equipped rooms include WiFi access for a small fee. All in all a really perfect experience! I booked in here at short notice after cycling through the Netherlands and into Germany. The welcome was really friendly a nd the castle is in a beautiful setting and wonderfully maintained. My room was super - a really comfortable bed and excellent shower after some very hot cycling. The breakfast was delicious and the staff really friendly so it put me in good store for my next day of cycling! I would definitely stay here again next time!

“Lonely chateau”
Romantic, quiet location. The strangeness of a small empty chateau with almost only me in it. Kettle with coffee and tea provided. Only 7 minutes drive to Kalkar, a very beautiful old town in the Dutch style, and about 15 minutes drive to Burg Anholt with spectacular wildflower gardens. Excellent breakfast in atmospheric medieval semi-cellar. Very friendly ladies at reception and breakfast. Good value.

“Fairytale castle…”
Beautifully renovated castle in a small village. Perfect place to stop on a bike tour. We didn’t have a room in the castle but our accommodation was in the renovated outbuildings where we could leave our bikes. Our building was convenient and comfortable. We enjoyed a fabulous breakfast in the castle in the morning…

“Nice but lots of room for improvement”
the building and location were very nice and the Baronesse room was spacious with a bubble bath. Staff serving breakfast very friendly. Plenty to do in the area.

Great breakfast restaurant and rooms are very very spacious. Staffs are really nice and freindly. Huge Parking place included. We have been here a year ago and like very much. Second time, we were as happy as first time.

“Worth visiting.”
Room was luxurious. Communal areas were lovely and the mini bars were very inexpensive compared with other hotels. Hotel in lovely grounds.
