“We had an absolutely fabulous time at the beautiful Taragala Chalets and I can't wait to stay again!”

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Taragala Chalets. These few days at Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary were the highlight of my trip to Sri Lanka. The accommodation is right next to the bird sanctuary with open views of the wetland and wading birds from right outside the bedrooms. There is a beautiful garden also and meals were served in a lovely outdoor sheltered area. The owner Saman made our stay so comfortable and enjoyable. He arranged the most delicious meals while we were there including a Sri Lankan evening meal and Sri Lankan breakfasts that were different each day and equally delicious. He recommended climbing a nearby rock for sunset and sunrise. Here we had panoramic views of the bird sanctuary and saw so many birds as well as black-faced langurs. He arranged a birdwatching catamaran trip that was superb. We had a very knowledgable guide called Angala. We saw several birds including darters, jacanas, Brahminy kites, purple heron, paradise flycatcher, kingfishers, purple swamphen and many others. The accommodation is within walking distance of a beautiful beach. Though probably not safe for swimming it was wonderful to walk along the beach beside the large waves. We also arranged a kayaking trip on the nearby Lunama lagoon. This was fantastic also and enabled us to get even closer to birds without disturbing them. We saw the white-bellied sea eagle, grey headed fish eagle and so many other birds. There were formations of hundreds of birds at sunset that was stunning to watch. I recommend this place to anyone who likes birdwatching and I hope to stay there again in the future!

I don’t even know what words to use to describe our experience during this stay… Simply stunning! This is our second stay at Taragala place and bird sound, breeze from sanctuary is taking us to a different world. Garden is nicely done! Inside the chalet is ok.mosquito netting is available. If you are looking for a stay crunch up with nature this place is highly recommended. Saman is an excellent host, Speak good english and he take care of everything. Also he arranged our tour of bird watching early morning. I think this is a paradise for bird and environment lovers.

This was our second stay at Taragala Chalets so we knew we were coming to a very relaxing place surrounded by nature with a charming host, Saman, who speaks excellent English. The facilities are very good with Kalametiya Bird sanctuary on the doorstep and fine unspoilt beaches nearby.

I really enjoyed my stay at Taragala. The villas are set right by the Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary, so every morning I woke up to the sounds of birds and beautiful views of nature. The villas are built in a traditional Sri Lankan style, simple but very comfortable, and they feel close to the environment. I liked how they are eco-friendly and made with care. It’s a peaceful place where you can relax, enjoy nature, and experience a bit of real Sri Lankan culture. A truly special stay,a must-stay when you visit Kalametiya ,one of the best beaches in srilanka within walking distance

I had the most wonderful stay at Taragala Chalets. Saman was so kind and looked after me so well. I felt very privileged to stay in such a beautiful place and see amazing birds in the garden and in the wetland nature reserve beside it. Nothing was too much trouble for Saman and he took me around and showed me the lovely village, the beach and Taragala Rock. The food was amazing. It was the highlight of my trip. I have very happy memories and hope to be back one day.

The location right next to the bird sanctuary is fabulous, and it is only a short walk to Taragala Rock, from here you have a perfect wiew of the whole area. The garden is an ideal place for watching birds of many kinds. Saman is very helpful, and he helped arranging a boat trip in the lagoon. The breakfast was very nice, and generous. The WiFi , aircondition, the shower all worked well. The bed was comfortable.

Taragala is such a beautiful and relaxing place to stay overlooking the bird reserve. So many wonderful birds in the garden - I could spend all day watching them from the veranda or many tranquil spots round the garden. Saman was a very attentive and kind host. Food was delicious. Didn't want to leave such a special place.

Excellent.....I can’t say a bad word about our stay with Saman at Taragala place. Superb..... We throughly enjoyed our stay. The view was excellent and lots of birds and wild life to observe as you can see the bird sanctuary 30 meters away. Ideal place for bird observing and photography. Very calm and natural friendly atmosphere..... Cabana that were nicely kept and cleaned and feel like you are in your own house. Thanks so much Taragala place.. We hope to come back and visit again soon!

Saman is the perfect host. He speaks brilliant English and his attention to detail is exceptional. The ambience at the chalet is calm and peaceful, in an exotic garden with open views to the bird sanctuary and Taragala Rock, which is a 10 minute walk away and perfect for watching the sun go down with no sounds except for birds and the sea. The chalet was tastefully furnished and decorated and spotlessly clean.
