Genuine onsen experience.

The room was huge and included several baths, including one in the balcony. The mixed open air bath with special swimsuit allows a family to enjoy the bath together.

The outdoor onsen. It was awesome, and even if it's mixed, people were very respectful. We didn't use the indoor onsen, so can't comment on that. We were lucky to get snow while we're there and it added to the place. The room we got was a traditional japanese ryokan room it was lovely and it had a great snow forest view. The food was amazing and each course was done perfectly. The photo on booking does not do the place justice. And the staff were very accommodating and helpful. We arrived before check-in, and they drove us to Yamanaka onsen town and fetched us later with no extra cost. There is also a free shuttle service from Kagaonsen station in the afternoon and to Kagaonsen station in the morning, just book in advance.

This was an lovely onsen hotel. The room booked was spacious, comfortable and beautiful. And better than the pictures on the website. Great value for money. Outdoor onsen was great.

Overall a good stay, but mixed feelings about a few things: Service: We had a booking error (booked 3 pax, system showed 2). Despite the language barrier requiring translation apps, the staff were very helpful and resolved it smoothly. Onsen: The indoor onsen was clean and great. However, the outdoor mixed onsen had a lot of fallen leaves in the water and on the ground. It felt a bit unclean, though I understand it's hard to keep nature out entirely.

Amazing Onsen Hotel with spacious Japanese style rooms, great outdoor and indoor baths, and the staff were very friendly. Would definitely recommend!

Great onsen pools which were quiet. Very clean, spacious rooms. Friendly staff. Great breakfast. Yamanaka is a pleasant 25 minute walk. It’s a lovely small town.

“Great Onsen experience”

We loved our stay. From the warm welcome to the delights of the outdoor mixed onsen it was fabulous. Our dinner on the first night was delicious. The rooms are really spacious. The atmosphere is very serene.

The outdoor onsen with multiple baths were exceptional, the private ladies bath overlooks the river, which was a bonus.

The outdoor baths were amazing. And the chef made special dishes that were meat free (with a day's notice)

I almost never write reviews, but we had such a wonderful experience I wanted to share this. The outdoor mixed onsen is fantastic next to the river and amongst nature. This is the main reason I booked this place as most onsen are women only and men only. The hotel is large but we essentially had the place to ourselves. I believe there were about 3 to 5 other guests staying in the hotel. Every time our family of five went to the onsen, we had it to ourselves. The hotel looks a little tired from the outside, but inside it is still in very good condition and our traditional family room was very nice and big with 3 futons in the main room and 2 futons in the other room. There was also a nice small seating area off the main room with comfortable armchairs which opened onto the balcony. It was good value for money. The few staff we saw were very welcoming and helpful. We went in June, which is the low season. I hope that they have more guests in the high season so that more people can enjoy this lovely onsen. We appreciated the free cold water, tea and coffee and large comfortable seating area in the lobby.

Really chilled Rykan, good value for money considering other options in town. Have good spa options. Good location for hikes around the town if you are into it.

“A rejuvenating stay”

We are a couple from New Zealand. Beautiful views down the valley towards Kaga and up into the mountains towards Kakusenkai Gorge. Peaceful, quiet. Just be sure to arrange their shuttle from Kagaonsen Station if you are taking the trains to get here. It was supremely relaxing and we wished that we were staying for more than just the one night. We had the Kaiseki dinner and it was an incredible experience. 12 courses of local and seasonal food. Arranged by their head chef. The yukata they gave us to wear were comfortable and the whole experience was very rejuvenating.

“A lot of money for not much value”

The location was very quiet and surrounded by nature. Once we moved rooms, we had a nice view. The staff were kind. We had enough space to move around in, and several areas where we could actually sit down in both our room and the hotel as well. We appreciated the use of our yukatas and the small private outdoor onsen since the outdoor sections of pools along the stream were closed as the stairs were inaccessible due to snow.
