A 5-minute walk from the Ayatori Hashi “Cat’s Cradle Bridge”, Kocho Ryokan offers indoor, outdoor and free-use reservable hot-spring baths as well as Kaiseki course dinners served in the privacy of guests’ traditional Japanese rooms. Sliding paper screens open onto nature views in each room, and Yukata robes and floor cushions are provided. Each air-conditioned room has an LCD TV, a minibar, an electric kettle and an en suite bathroom. Guests sleep on a tatami (woven-straw) floor in Japanese-style futon bedding. The hotel has a free shuttle from JR Kaga-Onsen Train Station, a 20-minute drive away. Please make a reservation for the shuttle at time of booking. Awazu Onsen hot spring is a 30-minute drive away, and the ryokan provides free parking. Massages can be enjoyed between soaks in the baths. The free-use private hot-spring baths must be reserved at check-in. Free Wi-Fi is provided at the lobby. The set-menu Japanese breakfast and multi-course dinner feature fresh local ingredients.

We arrived from Sweden tired after a 25-hour journey, and were met with a kindness and consideration that touched our hearts. We were overwhelmed by the beauty of nature, the exquisite aesthetics of the rooms and enjoyed the hot bath. Dinner and breakfast were a fantastic experiences of flavours, preparation, serving and careful presentation by our host. These experiences were the perfect start to our first encounter with Japan. We could highly recommend others to do the same.

“Highly recommend this onsen ryokan to everyone who is looking for a traditional experience.”
A nice traditional place with original features and adorable attentive staff. The property itself was much bigger than what we expected - it was a villa over the two floors rather than a usual suite. There is a view over the garden and a private onsen in the villa - one inside and one outside. We’ve been served a traditional Japanese dinner and a breakfast in our dining room - a real treat!

They prepared a vegetarian Japanese breakfast and dinner which was delicious and well presented. The facilities have character and were spacious and very clean. It was quiet and the private baths were generous in size and very clean. The staff was attentive and helpful.
