Ambience, breakfast and location

Extremely warm, helpful and prompt guest, it felt to us like she was a family member. Quiet, clean, the common room is a great cozy place to meet people and chat. In the common/breakfast room there are fridges freely available with beer/wine/refreshments + coffee machine/tea and one can open a tab and pay at the end of the stay. Bathroom/shower large enough with everything that is needed. Radiators/warm water always available. Sufficient lighting provided in the room. Close to a village and supermarkets (5 minutes cycling) and the largest village (15 minutes cycling). Things we liked that contradicted some of the reviews we've read before going: compared with other reviews here we have been provided with shower gel and liquid soap; breakfast was not that basic as some suggested as it had everything we needed and it was quite varied considering this is a small establishment; there is no cleaning service, which for us was a plus (if needed, one could always contact the host, who was always available, for stuff like a towel replacement, etc).

The staff was very friendly. I also like the "trust-bar" very much: you can take the drinks you like, write it down and pay them at the end of your stay - all based on trust. Breakfast included fruits.

Nice and cosy hotel, the staff was really friendly and helpful.

The staff is really nice and kind. The location is superb and the breakfast was absolutely lovely. We would definitely go here again.

“Top holiday on Terschelling”

Staying at the Horper Wielen really made my Terschelling holiday a fabulous experience. The hotel is well situated just off the main road/cycle path, and only a couple of mins from a bus stop. So easy access to all parts off the island. Yet it's wonderfully peaceful at night (yes you hear guests entering nearby rooms, but I didn't hear much more than that). And from the terraces outside, you have a view over the fields and of the sunset. Very good breakfast. All sorts of bread, including Frisian sugar bread! Plus hard boiled eggs (warm), cheese etc, croissants, yogurts. No cornflakes though. And be aware breakfast is only from 8.30 to 9.30. Outside breakfast hours you can help yourself to tea, coffee, beer, soft drinks, and keep a tab. Then relax in the large main room or outside, or consult one of the many walking or other guides available. The room was larger than I expected, and I had no problem with the bed (unlike some commenters). Some good features in the bathroom: LOTS of towel rails (don't change this if renovating), and the staff actually respect the eco choice to reuse towels over several days. (The many rails helps you do so.) Be aware no shower gel or shampoo is provided. But there is a hairdryer. The staff are friendly, and I also liked that the cleaners didn't put the bed decorations back on every day unnecessarily. I would certainly stay here again!

Location is outside town but is beautiful. The property has a nice garden. Feels close to nature when sitting in the garden. The interior design is modern/ up to date. Gives the place a relaxing atmosphere.
