“Peaceful, off the beaten track, vaguely strange”

This is a bit of a hidden gem between Poptun and Rio Dulce, set in fields among trees with little pointy wooded hills. We went for the peace; it's just off the road but down a long track so it feels much more rural, and for the horse riding, which was great. We enjoyed our cute wooden cabin with hammock veranda, and walking around the grounds.

Secluded property on a big chunk of land with an interesting history. Built by some Americans who moved to Guatemala in the early 70s. Cant imagine what it would have been like to get around back then ! Cabins are simple but spacious and have comfy beds and a hammock and plenty of windows to allow the breeze in. Heaps of birds around and I saw a squirrel too. Plenty of books to read.

“Charming off-the-beaten-track place”

Charming location, very green and lush. very friendly staff. Good food and nice feeling of community at the place. We enjoyed our walks (although they were not as long as expected) but in lovely surroundings and joined by the property's local dogs. .

Finca Ixabel was an oasis of calm after driving for hours on our way to Tikal. The surroundings are lush and green. We didn't go horsebackriding or hiking - too old for that. But if you're up to it, it would a great way to explore the grounds. On another note, we managed to leave our computer charger behind but the staff found it and held it for us which we got by driving back. Two hours! But boy did we need that charger.

We loved everything about the place. It´s just magical.

The rooms were very large and comfortable. Staff were lovely, but as we were the only hotel guests, it didn't have the communal sociable vibe it used to have. The restaurant was excellent with lots of local families visiting. The swimpool is magical.

Second time at Finca Ixobel, a very special place on Guatemala itinerary. Had great day at Pozos on Rio Machaquila.

“Beautiful oasis near Poptún”

The hotel is set in beautiful grounds and there are walks you can undertake direct from the hotel. We only stopped for a night – we got stranded in nearby Poptún because of a blockade on the road – and the next morning we needed to push on, but we were sad that we didn't have more time here as the setting is idyllic and the food in the restaurant among the best we had on our trip! We were given helpful tips about good places in the grounds to spot wildlife.

“Don't go, past glory.”

Leaving was the best part of this stay. We travel Guatemala now for 5 weeks, this was by far the worst experience.
