The apartment was inside very clean and had all necessary amenities. The washing machine was a huge plus. The host was very nice.

Hoshidate is the oldest recorded village on Iriomote. It holds many traditional Okinawan ceremonies throughout the year with many of the village residents taking part. With a backdrop of lush jungle forest and a stunning bay reaching out to the edge of the surrounding reef, Kuganipi has a character all of its own. Tropical plants visited by exotic species of butterflies in the day and fruit bats and owls roosting in the trees at night create a unique atmosphere on this tropical island paradise.

“An Unforgettable Stay in Pristine Iriomote!”

We really enjoyed our stay on Iriomote Island. The guesthouse has everything you need, including kayaks and bikes to explore the area. The host is amazing—he took us on a hunting trip and to local events. Plus, the breakfast he prepares is delicious! Although we weren’t lucky with the weather, we still had a fantastic time. This was the best place we visited during our trip to the Okinawa Islands! I highly recommend it, but hope this island remains as pristine as it is now.

This is definitely one of the best places we stayed at during our 11 weeks Trip through Japan 💖 The location is amazing, you can hear the waves from the terrace, there are flying foxes in the village and the night sky is breathtaking. The apartment is spacious, very clean and very well equipped, especially the kitchen. Soy sauce, salt and spices are there, as well as some other basic ingredients. We loved the washing machine. And we had the best day exploring the mangroves and the coast with the canoe we could borrow for free! The host Takamichi is a very kind person. He was so helpful and communication was easy. He even gave us a little guided tour through the village and told us about the history and traditions. 5 stars are not enough, and we will for sure come back to this lovely place. Even though our stay was short because of the typhoon, we have a lot of very fond and special memories 💖

It's probably the best place to stay when visiting Iriomote island. Takamichi is a great host. He picked us from bus station and gave detailed information about village and island culture. Apartment is clean and very well equipped. It matters because there is only few restaurants and small shop on Iriomote so having your own kitchen with all needed utensils is a life saver. It's 50 meteres from the sea, so you have your own beach. You can also use Takamichi's kayaks and bikes for free. And apartment have private porch facing the seaside where you can relax and spent lazy afternoons. It may be not the cheapest place on the island but it's worth every cent. Plus you can ask Takamichi to prepare you breakfast. Even vegetarian or vegan :)

Let yourself be surprised, the surrounding and the accommodation is even better than on the pictures. We appreciated the care and attention of our host to develop a sustainable tourism, it was very pleasant. Nice quiet place surrounded by nature, only 20 meters to the beach. The breakfast is amazing.

Takamichi is a wonderful and incredible host. He is always ready to help, always cheerful. His place is incredible for a quiet life.

Amazing place, super clean, has everything you need to fully enjoy the wonderful island. Owner has great advise on places for food and snorkeling, and is a hiking guide. We stayed for about a week but wish it was longer.

The owner did everything possible to help us understand how to get to his unique location, including a video of getting there. We did not use a bus, but we could have. Very friendly welcome including a walk around the village, and an explanation of the 3 available places to eat in the evening.
