Our stay in Idrija was actually our plan B after our original accommodation was not available on short notice. But honestly, Idrija, and especially the hostel should have been our plan A. Idrija is a very undervalued destination, with great hikes, biking trails, history to discover and to cool off in the Idrijca river. Our room was spacious, well lit, quiet, clean, had a great view and the beds were comfortable. The hostel itself is very well equipped with several kitchens, toilets, showers and surprises endlessly with cool events, a cozy large terrace, a coworking space, an herb garden or the lounge. The ground floor is used for youth activities, making this place a very warm, buzzing (but not loud) meeting point of the local community. Our hosts Tomas and Patricjia, were amazing in giving us seriously the best tips to explore the region, ranging from concerts, bike rides, hikes, swimming spots and also choosing the best trips a little bit of a drive away - after all, if you do leave Idrija for a day trip, it better be worth it, and those recommendations did not disappoint. We stayed a full week in Hostel Idrija and had a truly great experience!

Spacious hostel with great common spaces like the shared kitchen and the outdoor terrace. Very good beds as well. Staff was really friendly and helpful, they advised us on a place to swim and even helped us to get there :)

“Perfect option for budget travellers”

Basic accomodation for good price. Rooms are simple but clean, staff is friendly and helpful.

A chill place where I think you could meet interesting people if you stayed longer. Excellent cleanliness, even in the shared bathrooms, and simple but nice rooms. The staff were friendly and accepting our dog travelling with us.

“The hostel with good feeling.”

The hostel is located quite centrally, but on a hill. It’s in a very large house shared with a youth and children’s center. Still, there was a nice atmosphere and feeling, thanks to the children during the day and the great staff. I also liked the big terrace and the well-equipped kitchen. The bathroom was clean. The room was spacious, and I had the large room all to myself :).

Spacious rooms, clean, friendly staff, pet friendly, free parking possibilities, few minutes walking distance from city centre and supermarket.

This is by far one of the coolest hostels I have stayed at. I hope to return someday 😍

Good location, friendly host. A lot of parking space (very important for Slovenia). Enough toilets for such amount of rooms. Great shared facilities.

It’s in a Unesco World Heritage site, very beautiful! Staff is very nice. Room is for the purpose, bed is quite comfortable.

“Idrija from the terrace”

They are a very small and like-family staff and they take really good care of this former boarding school. The building is fascinating and right on the top of Idrija (8 min walking time to get to the center). The kitchen is nice and spacious and I liked to idea of making beds from pallets. The common spaces, huge lounge room and huge outside lounge, are extremely nice.

Friendly staff, and we got a key to a laundry room where we could safely store bicycles overnight.
