Overview

Casonas de Marengo is set in 30,000m² of gardens outside the village of Cueva del Viento in Icod de los Vinos. These charming apartments are housed within a traditional Canarian property. Each apartment opens onto either a private or shared terrace, and offers views of the Teide Mountains. The 18th-century buildings feature yellow façades and beamed ceilings. There is a seating area with a sofa, a TV, and kitchen facilities including a microwave, fridge and a coffee maker. The surrounding gardens include fruit trees and walking paths. There are also terraces, a barbecue, and free WiFi in common areas. Cueva del Viento, Europe’s largest volcanic tunnel, is less than 5 minutes’ drive away, while Icod de los Vinos can be reached in 15 minutes by car. The coast is approximately 6 km from the Marengo.

Move on and search for a different place, this one is not worth it.

If you’re considering booking this accommodation - *don’t* We made a mistake of booking this place quite last minute right before leaving for our trip. We booked it for 5 nights, 17/04/2026-22/04/2026 and we paid upfront for the whole stay. We ended up fleeing the place after 2 nights, with nowhere to stay, having to search for another accommodation. I never received any refund. What we found when we arrived at Casonas de Marengo was nowhere near what we expected after seeing the pictures on the website. Before booking a stay at this property for yourself, be sure to please check the pictures I am attaching to this review. We got the self check-in instructions and entered the property in the evening of 17/04; generally the instructions were quite unclear but after a moment of confusion we decided to follow a very bad quality internal road to a detached house in the back of the property. The area was in disarray; moreover, there were empty bottles and packages all over the place as if someone had a barbecue party and decided never to clean up. What we encountered inside of the accommodation were moist/humid atmosphere, it felt like entering a basement due to awful smell and moisture; General feeling of untidiness as if nobody has cleaned there for quite some time; There was no sunlight, no windows - just a ~20 by 20 cm slit in the wall that you cannot keep uncovered, because it’s overlooking the common area; Small, white flies flying all over the bathroom, escaping the bathroom every time you opened the door and then bothering you in your sleep Holes in the walls Enormous fungus on the walls and ceilings, like really, I’ve never seen anything like this We had a lot of plans that could have been ruined otherwise, so somehow we survived the first night out of the 5 that we booked. We spent the whole day away, and as we returned to the accommodation around midnight, we started noticing things that were the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Quiet and lovely views (if the weather permits)

If you want to be away from people and noise, then this is a great place to be. You will have privacy and a quiet time. If it is not too cloudy, you will have a wonderful view on Teide, as well as the ocean and villages below. Most of all, to future visitors, I want to say that of you feel uncomfortable or have a need, just contact the owners before leaving a bad review or complaining. The owners are super kind and they will go out of their way to assist you. Just ask them. They will do what is in their capacity to make things comfortable and convenient for you. Just ask. Thank you for helping us so swiftly when we had requests. We sincerely appreciate it.

Good

Check-in was easy, and communication was also smooth. The place is beautiful from the outside, and our room was very cozy, with a countryside feel and a more vintage vibe. It was cold, so if you’re visiting in January, it’s a good idea to bring warm pajamas. However, we had everything we needed in terms of blankets and extra pillows. We were not able to use the TV, as there was no YouTube or Netflix available. Unfortunately, we also couldn’t use the pool because it was very cold and cloudy, so we couldn’t see the volcano or use the barbecue area. I believe that in the summer it must be a great place to enjoy all of these amenities.

There was mold right next to the bed, poor cleanliness, no Wi-Fi, and only one working power outlet. The room was very cold in winter, and the owner did not communicate at all. We booked for 8 nights but had to leave after the first night due to the conditions. Not recommended.

The house is exactly as shown in the pictures - typical architecture of the region. Comfortable beds and a well-equipped kitchen. There are a lot of parking slots

Beautiful place up the hill from the town, near the edge of the pine forests. Beautiful both inside and out. I liked it. Good value for money. Pool cold in Decemeber (be aware) but pool not needed. Ocean is where to do your swimming (nice temperature). A nice perk was the "reverse osmosis" water machine in the back common area... 100% pure water was great. I think I will buy one of these machines. Fill up your water pitcher here as host will show you. Good proxitmity to everywhere north coast: Garachico, Teno, and we swam at Playa de las Arenas. Fast hwy towards Puerto de la Cruz. Windy road to SW coast adds some time, but goes thru some nice pine forrests where we found a good trail. Nice hosts too.

Peaceful rural location with great views across coastline, out to see and up to Teide.

Lovely peaceful and quiet rural location with great views across the sea and up to Teidi. Great stars at night. Nice hot shower. Has a nicer feel to it than the photos convey. Host was very responsive. Good setup with various sitting areas outdoors - feels like you have it to yourself.

The house is located in a lush green tropical garden with a lot of space for the kids to explore. There is even a small playground, cats and hiking paths close by.. Also, the accommodation offers a breathtaking view up to the Teide and down to the coast. We would stay here anytime!
