“A hidden gem in Huaraz — warmth, comfort & and awesome host”

I stayed at La Casa de Zarela for five nights and felt genuinely comfortable throughout. The room was cleaned every day, cozy and enough space for arranging my stuff. The WiFi was super fast so I could even work when I needed to. I especially loved the common areas: relaxed outdoor sitting spots where you can unwind after an exhausting day of hiking. The true standout is Zarela herself. She is a warm and attentive host who helped me plan all of my tours and hikes with patience and local expertise — always available when you needed her. She also offers flexible breakfast solutions, when you start your hike very early. The Thai restaurant on-site is a pleasant surprise, the Pad Thai is delicious and not something you’d expect to find in Huaraz. What’s also worth mentioning is that they are very accommodating when it comes to dietary needs, whether you have food intolerances or follow a vegetarian diet, you’ll be well taken care of here. If you’re spending time in Huaraz, La Casa de Zarela is a great choice and I totally recommend it.

Zarela is the most lovely host! She helped us with everything (regarding transport, luggage storage, prepared early breakfast if we left early for trekking … ) and made us feel like home! Breakfast is great and the accommodation in general is very lovely.

Lovely stay in La Casa de Zarela - where Zarela will host you with all her experience from travelling around the world (she knows what you need as a traveler) and gives you a feeling of coming home because of her heartful behaviour. Our experience in the shoulder season: +Early check-in after arriving with night bus. +Organizing a lot of the tours by contacting the agency and a taxi driver directly by her via the phone. +Giving recommendations for activities (daily or multiple days). +Spontaneous one night longer - we were in shoulder season but she was very flexible concerning our stay. ++Lovely talks with her in the evening with a delicious cup of tea.

Helpful and kind staff. The room was perfect size and quiet. Breakfast was yummy and the staff went out of their way to ensure we had breakfast. Our room was very clean as well as the rest of the property.

One of the best properties I have stayed in - Zarela and the rest of the staff were incredibly kind and she had very helpful advice about the various hikes available around Huaraz given our tight schedule. The Thai food is absolutely delicious and we ate dinner there every night after a long day of hiking, breakfast is very tasty too. The hotel is in a quieter area of town and is beautifully designed, with a mountaineering theme to inspire you to explore the mountains around. Our triple room was clean and tidy, nice bathroom with good water pressure and plenty of hot water! There are several nice communal areas to relax in after your hike, including a couple outdoor terraces We loved our time at Casa de Zarela, we felt really comfortable and welcome and we will definitely be back!

Very comfortable place, with many nice places to lounge and hang out. Zarela was very welcoming and gave great advice for my upcoming trek in Huayhuash. Meals were delicious and healthy and washing service was convenient. Just a lovely place and will stay again for sure if back in Huaraz.

This place is amazing. Zarela is so friendly and helpful. She speaks great English and can help you book anything you need, including logistics for climbing and trekking in the area. All the staff are lovely. The vibe is easy-going and well organized. The rooms are very comfortable and there are plants everywhere. Nice, easy walk into town. The restaurant is fantastic and delicious, and one of the few places in Peru that never got us sick!

Zarela was super helpful during our stay. We were able to organize laundry through her, we ate at the restaurant twice, and the beds were super comfy. Water was hot, had good outdoor space, and was a great way to relax for a day after our trek.

Breakfast was really good, and it was possible to get an early breakfast when we left for a hike. Also, the host is very kind and helped with all the questions we had about tours!

I cannot imagine a better place to have spent our time in Huaraz. Zarela provides true hospitality at every step of the way. The place is beautiful, there are numerous inviting common spaces, and it is a place to meet and talk to other travelers. When our trip didn't go as planned, Zarela went above and beyond to not only help us navigate the situations, but to help us still have a great trip. I cannot recommend highly enough. Will definitely stay here again when we return to Huaraz.

“The perfect base for your stay in Huaraz”

La Casa de Zarela was the perfect place to stay in Huaraz. Zarela, the owner, is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable about Huaraz and its surroundings, and always ready to provide helpful tips. The breakfast and Thai food she serves are both great. A nice extra: they provide a laundry service using cold wash and air drying, perfect for sensitive woolen outdoor gear. We stayed here to acclimatize to the altitude and could conveniently leave our luggage while we did the Santa Cruz trail, and come back for one last night. I highly recommend staying here during your trip to Huaraz.

We stayed at La Casa de Zarela for almost one week. The accommodation was really nice and clean. Our room was cleaned every day. Zarela’s house is located very close to the city centre which was convenient when going out for dinner or shopping. There is a small kitchen available which we appreciated for making a tea in the evening or for hikes. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Zarela gave us good tips and provided contacts for local drivers. When needed, an early breakfast can be prepared for you as well, which is really great when planning to leave for hikes very early in the morning.

La Casa de Zarela really feels like a home. The staff is incredibly nice and Zarela herself has been incredibly helpful with all the right tips and advice to go hiking in the area as well as with organizing the transfers

La Casa de Zarela is very comfortable and gorgeously decorated - a truly lovely place to spend time. Above all Zarela is a fantastic host! She gave us so much advice on where to go and how to get there (eg hiking spots and restaurants with vegetarian options!) She even put us in touch with a guide she knows at the Chavin site. Breakfast was always delicious, and a great opportunity to meet other travelers and chat to Zarela. The hostel is well-located just a few minutes' walk from restaurants and shops. We will recommend Huaraz and in particular La Casa de Zarela to all our friends and family.
