Very comfortable villa with home-way-from-home amenities close to the Hongu Taisha shrine. Lots of space and lovely views. Excellent evening meals provided.

We loved our stay. It's the most magical location and the owners made things very clear even though we met no one physically at all throughout our stay. Everything is well explained and you can comfortably get by. The views are breathtaking and it's one of our most memorable stays in Japan.

It was beautiful - much more stylish and luxurious than expected. The bedroom looks out over the Grand Gate of the Hongu Taisha. In all respects a remarkable stay. Tomo and Amy of Cafe Sabo Sei went to extraodinary lengths to provide us with a delicious breakfast - big enough to fill our Bento boxes for the days hike. We highly recommend it.

We enjoyed staying here. The villa is in a great location for walking and we enjoyed sitting on the veranda after a day of hiking. The villa was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. Thank you also for supplying tea/coffee/water/beer/condiments in the kitchen for us to use.

What a spot!! Really well appointed villa with great hosts! Not only did the provide us with welcome drinks including sake and beer, we also got a spectacular view of the Torii Gate. The whole place was really cosy and breakfast in the morning was brilliant.

The location is incredible in front of this huge tori. Waking up seeing this is incredible. The house is super confy and we’ll equipped. The little cafe near offers yummy breakfast and you are just walking distance from the sights.

The private, unobstructed view of the Torii gate itself is worth booking this place for. But on top of that, it’s a spacious, beautiful traditional Japanese house. Easily the most beautiful stay of the trip. There’s a great ramen place and konbini (convenience) store just a few mins walk down the road. The house is by a busy road, however the traffic mostly stops at night, you will sleep to the sounds of frogs (:

Absolutely gorgeous house, spotless clean, yet a “lived in” family house all possible amenities, appliances and utensils. The pictures are correct - you have your own view of the largest torii in Japan, presiding over rice fields. In the centre of Hongu, close to a few local eateries and 300mm from the visitor centre, bus stop and on the crossroads of the Kumano trails. We were concerned that there would ne noise from the adjacent road but the town is so quaint that that wasn’t not the case at all. We have spent two weeks travelling Japan with family and this was hands down the best place and we all regretted we didn’t stay longer. Thoroughly recommended.

The house was in a great location, easy check in. Everything was very clean and clear. Beautiful house and very comfortable and private. We are glad we booked Villa Kumano.

Spacious house right in town on the main street with a great view of the large Inari gate and mountains beyond, cooking facilities and some refreshments provided, several dining options close by as well as small supermarkets, great to experience Japanese style accommodation compared to hotels and the bedroom is roomy. There's a great loop walk of the Kumano Kodo trail that passes close by the house.

“Beautiful relaxing area to visit”

The villa has an amazing view across the rice paddies to the Tori gate and then down to the river. The town has all you need to either self cater or eat out and the villa had everything we needed to drink our wine on the verandah and cook our Wagu steaks. Lots of condiments provided for us to do this. We enjoyed being able to have a meal at home and the area is worth staying an extra day or so. We only stayed one night and wished we could have stayed longer.

The Owners helped greatly with the Luggage Service as well as providing us with emergency Equipment and information of the Typhoon. Informing way before the Stay and also after we left the the Accomodation to Continue the Kumano Kodo. First time i experienced this and it's greatly appreciated. The house had everything that you might need for your stay, Kitchen, Washing machine. the House itself is neat, clean and very charming

The owner truly knows how to provide a warm cosy atmosphere making for a perfect stay. Everything about the villa was unbeatable. The view across the rice fields towards the sacred Tori magnificent.

Very happy with our stay at Villa Kumano. Hosts provided all the required information and were accommodating of some last minute requests from us too. The villa itself is huge and equipped with all comforts, including a wonderful mattress. We also enjoyed the dinner which was provided at a nearby restaurant, and the breakfast (we requested a boxed one, having to leave early, and it was packed with delicious and fresh ingredients). Highly recommend this place if you are spending one night in Hongu, even more if you are doing so after a long walk and are in need of proper rest!

Delicious breakfast delivered on time by the coffee shop. Beautifull view to the shrine from the house. Very close to bus station and temple complex Everything present, good bedroom and kitchen, washing machine works well. Nice bathroom. Refigerator full of free drinks, wine, beer and soft drinks and water. Special Japanes feeling. Could not be better. Nice onsen in the neighborhood.
