It had everything for someone hiking in the area. The owner Sanae was so nice and helpful. She helped me get a short notice liggage transfer which allowed me to finish off the Kumano Kodo with ease.

The owner had fantastic advice and also offered us the option of dinner and breakfast. Both of these were fantastic and we tried a whole range of psyching who is fantastic.

Really nice shared space - the kitchen was available to do some cooking - they even offer rice if you want to cook some! They have packets of curries on sale so you can easily cook dinner. I didn't realise I didn't close the glass door / window so I slept comfortably without turning on the AC. I would wonder if it gets colder because that glass isn't going to keep out the cold.

“Great stay in Hongu”

I loved staying at Sanae, she is a perfect host, very considerate. In the house everything is very clean, organized and well marked in English with explanations for people who don't read in Japanese, at night it's silent outside – the house has a very relaxing atmosphere and it's well heated in the wintertime / air-conditioned in the summer. The house is right next to a very nice public bath, it's close to other onsens in the area, restaurants and small shops are in walking distance and overall it's a great place to stay after a long Kumano Kodo walk!

Friendly host, really nice common area, drinks and snacks are available for reasonable prices, private room was nice. Also a fridge was available both in the common area and in the private room. Also, the private room had a charging device where we could directly plug in our USB cables without needing an adapter.

The guest was super sweet and caring. It was my birthday and she set up decorations which made me feel really special. The location is great. The place was clean. The views were great. It was the perfect pitstop on our hike.

Very nice beds soft beds and pillows, although just a little too short for me. The host was super welcoming and nice! Kitchen and possibility to buy snacks and drinks was really nice as well! The view from our stay was very pretty. All in all, pretty nice place to stay.

Perfect location, very kind and helpful staff that helped us arrange to have dinner, breakfast and lunch delivered for our Kumano Kodo pilgrimage. Definitely recommended! Also extremely good value for money. The kitchen is available for use as are a washing machine and dryer!

Environment! It’s so nice, with the rooms, view to the giant Torii gate, cleanliness of the house, kitchen, home, etc. Host is very helpful too!

Wonderful warm friendly guesthouse and host. Felt like home away from home. Views to the torii gate, minutes to the Main Street and local shrine. Comfortable beds and food available if you miss the shops.
