Huge and lots of character

What a special experience! It was so beautifully, traditionally decorated, it felt like the full Japanese experience! The man who checked me in was wonderful, so friendly and helpful. I went to his restaurant that night - you must! The food was superb! They even made me a little packed lunch for the next day. Phenomenal location, easily accessible by bus and short walk to the Watarase Onsen (which I thought was far more beautiful and special an experience than the more famous Yunomine Onsen, sitting outside in an open air onsen as stars fillled the sky!). Highly recommend, my only regret is I only stayed one night 🥰

“Authentic Japanese Experience”

I liked everything about our stay. Manabu is a superb host who treated us as guests instead of customers. His kindness represents what I love about rural Japan. For instance, when my wife hurt her leg on the Kumano Kodo, he insisted on driving us to a pharmacy in Hongu. Every morning during our three day visit, he dropped off hand-made onigiri. We slept very well on the new thick mattresses under the warm futons. The 'kotatsu' is a good experience for guests. If you're looking for an authentic Japanese experience, this is a great choice. By the way, his local izakaya has tasty food and drink at an affordable price.

All the amenities were thoughtfully provided to ensure a truly comfortable stay. The owner was absolutely wonderful — friendly, welcoming, and happy to help. He also runs a charming little restaurant in Wataze Onsen, which we highly recommend! The food was delicious, the atmosphere was cosy — a real gem. As a thoughtful touch, the owner even surprised us with a tasty snack for our onward journey. We wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone looking for an authentic, relaxing experience, and we’re already looking forward to coming back for a longer stay. P.S. The nearby onsen is a perfect way to unwind after a day of walking and sightseeing — don’t miss it!

We absolutely adored the place. It was very spacious and felt so authentic. It was really cozy. We were surprised with a snack to take with us for breakfast. We felt bad leaving, wished we could stay longer

The accommodation was amazing! We saw the photos of the place before, but its on person you can see how big and pretty the house is. It’s a very traditional accommodation, so it’s perfect for those looking for a traditional experience. The owner was very kind and cared about explaining all the details of the place. The house has a place where you can feed and watch birds in the morning, and at night, the illumination of the lanterns in the garden is very pretty as well. He also brought us some delicious homemade oniguiri in the morning. Really peaceful stay, highly recommend. For sure you will leave the house with a very good feeling of appreciation.

Beautiful, quiet and comfortable Japanese house with a warm and welcoming owner. The only thing that could have improved our stay would have been more time, so we could have stayed longer.

The room is an antique Japanese room with renovation. Really awesome with all traditional decorations. Very comforatble and impressive. The host is nice and explain how to use the device in the house. He opens a BBQ chicken restaurant nearby, you need to go there to get the key. Food in restaurant is also awesome! Really relaxing place. But becareful when you arrive after 6pm as the part of the way to the house is really dark without street light. Better prepare torch.
