“Ultramodern design hotel surrounded by nature”

We stayed two nights at Hotel Keyforest Hokuto and really enjoyed our stay. Designed by architect Atsushi Kitagawara, the building is striking and ultramodern, made of concrete and glass, surrounded by beautiful countryside. Inside, everything is western in style with wood floors and clean, minimal design — no tatami mats or sliding doors. Our room was very spacious with two large single beds, a sitting area, a closet, and a big balcony with lounge chairs. The bathroom had a large glass-enclosed bathtub with a view of the trees, a separate shower, and a separate WC. Everything felt modern, stylish, and exceptionally clean. Breakfast is served either in the lounge or in the room. It is a fixed set menu combining Japanese and Western elements — croissants, yogurt, fruit, salad, soup, and a freshly made omelet, plus juice and coffee or tea. The food was fresh and of good quality, though it was the same on both mornings. Dinner is served at the neighboring steakhouse operated by the same owner. Guests with half board enjoy a four-course menu of very good quality, mainly focused on steak, which was perfectly prepared. A pescatarian option is available upon request. The atmosphere is rustic, steakhouse-style, and the service was friendly and attentive. It was also convenient to simply walk across from the hotel. Our personal highlight was the private onsen in the forest. It can be reserved for 60 minutes and offers two large open-air baths surrounded by trees. The natural hot spring water felt wonderful and relaxing, and soaking under the night sky was an unforgettable experience.

“Quality accommodation and lovely staff.”

We had a lovely 1 night stay. The staff were all very welcoming. I was disappointed to find out that the Keith Haring museum is currently closed for a new installation, and sensing my disappointment, the gentleman on reception kindly gave me a book to take home. The hotel itself oozes quality.

“Outstanding stay.”

This was an outstanding hotel.Absolutely luxurious. The staff were very attentive and even drove us to a local restaurant for dinner. The view from the roof top was amazing, could see Mt Fuji. We also really enjoyed the outside spa. The best place we have stayed in Japan so far.

WONDERFUL!! People are so kind. Hot spring area was clean and organised. Room was clean, big and so pretty. We had most grateful time at HOTEL KEYFOREST HOKUTO during this trip.

Beautiful room, common space and grounds! Room amenities were fantastic and the hotel staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Such a lovely and peaceful place to stay. Loved the view of the mountains from the rooftop.

“A beautiful gem amongst the mountains”

Stunning architecture and a beautiful property in Hokuto. The staff went over and beyond to make sure we were comfortable; they drove us to and from locations and even booked restaurants for us when requested. The breakfast was yum, the rooms were absolutely beautiful and the onsen was magical. It was a treat to be right next to the Keith Haring museum which was also fantastic.

Beautiful hotel, spacious rooms with modern and stylish interior. Huge bed and very comfortable pyjamas. Staff were very kind and helpful. Dinner option A was plenty and delicious, breakfast was also very good and big! We really enjoyed the private onsen, especially the large cooler bath was perfect in summer!
