“A unique stay in a picturesque castle”
It's a really unique experience, staying at this castle. The rooms are nice, well furnished and it's all inside the castle, making you feel like a real guest. The views are also incredible, and enjoying it all from the place you're going to stay is definitely worth it. The breakfast was surprisingly good too, even sharing it with a horde of kids on school trips.

“my home is my castle - literally!”
Staying in a proper working castle/fortress was special anyway and the room, while modern, had some lovely features such as a high arched ceiling. The location was perfect to visit Bastei and go for scenic walks nearby. Breakfast was fine, buffet style and plentiful. The castle also serves as an international youth hostel so things got lively but I loved the energy the kids brought to the place. Special shoutout to the staff at reception who were very helpful, happy to recommend walks and activities and making us feel welcome.

“Disappointing personal experience”
Check in is until 5pm, we informed that we would come later, because we travel long distance by bicycles. In the evening there was noone to be found to answer any questions, we had problems finding our room, and when we found it, it was not heated. We were freezing after the ride, and wanted to boil some water for tea. There were several "kitchens" on the floor maps we found, but it was just a room with 4 tables, no kettle, no nothing at all. We looked for and did not find no water, neither hot nor even cold to drink. In the room we ironically had glasses, but not a single bottle of water anywhere to be found. It was a bit of a shock for 120 euro night stay after a long trip. We had to wait till morning to drink anything. I would say it is not a hotel, it is rather campus. There was some kind of music camp for children going on, and I think you shouldn't expect more than a school trip format of that: bunk beds, poor breakfast of bread, ham and cheese (no eggs even) with coffee from titan pot. To be honest, we switched on the heating when we arrived, so it was not freezing at night when there was -1 outside. The castle itself is super fine, and the staff we met in the morning were also friendly and nice, it's just about a real discomfort we had to deal with in a hotel in 21 century - no water anywhere and no facilities to even have teraflu.

“Stay in a proper castle for the night”
Amazing to stay in a proper castle!! It was/is partly a youth hostel and that’s evident in the decor of the rooms. However, it was very comfortable and quiet. Great views across the valley. The lady at reception was super friendly. Easy bus access to Bad Schandau and Bastei. Good breakfast buffet with fresh Brötchen!
