Room was very clean and the living room very nicely decorated. It is located right at Hoedspruit’s entrance coming from Kruger (Orpen Gate) and is perfect if you’re going to do the Panorama Route. It’s in a private complex with controlled access/exit so I felt very safe staying here and leaving the car outside. Staff and Jozef (the owner) are nice and cheerful. If you are a smoker, make sure to ask him where the designated area is. I totally understand and sympathize with his concern, as it comes from looking after the rest of the guests, but being asked what I smoked and where I threw away my cigarette butts was super uncomfortable — I felt guilty even though I made sure to smoke outside away from the door/outdoor ceiling. Breakfast was nice and the view too.

I arrived 22 minutes late for check in which was at 19h00 and which I was informed about at 18h06. I kept the owner updated on my travel via voicenote the entire day. I even offered to fetch the key from him at his convenience when he informed me latest check in was 19h00 to which he declined. The owner was EXTREMELY rude, denied my attempts to greet him and apologise for being late. He proceeded to shout instructions at me like I was a child so that I wouldn’t and I quote ‘bother him at night’. His confrontation left me, a single female traveller who encountered a pothole ridden road with lots of construction and trucks on the last 80km, in tears and upset. This got my holiday off to a bad start and left a bad taste in my mouth. As a medical professional who works hard that is the last thing you want to encounter on your rare time off. You can have an amazing property but in my opinion hospitality is everything and it’s was lacking at The Belgium in for me.

I enjoyed the breakfast cooked in accordance with my request. Good quality and beautiful presentation. The fresh fruit salad with seasonal fruits was very enjoyable. To sit under the verandah and to be able to see antelope watching you eating is food for the heart!

Excellent host and reception. Spacious and well equipped rooms. Wonderful breakfast and service. Appreciated Jozef accommodating our request for breakfast outside the regular breakfast window. We couldn't have asked for a better location in Hoedspruit - set in the 'wild' and yet on the doorstep of all the amenities the town has to offer.
