Location and availability. We changed our travel plan and stayed one more day in Hiraizumi. Iris Yu was our only option.

“Gem, with fantastic sites nearby”
What a fantastic host, so helpful (despite our lack of language) even offering towels as we arrived in a downpour! Authentic beds, rooms - even complete with a small earthquake in the night to rattle the screens! Breakfast was great, a real find. Location was between the station and Motsuji temple, half an hour up to the Chūsonji Temple, walking distance to all.

“Great little hotel!”
A nice hotel with central location. The room was in a traditional Japanese style (with great heaters to keep warm in winter). The staff were very friendly and helpful! Breakfast was tasty and filling. Would definitely stay here again.

Property easy to find and very well maintained, looks new amongst a very tidy picturesque neighbourhood, free convenient parking in front of property, Iris very friendly and helpful, when helped carry one of our luggage up the stairs(no lift on site), allowed is alternative wifi when the primary wifi did not work, booked dinner reservation at a local izakaya We felt comfortable and safe when we walked along the quiet (not busy) streets during the day and at night, until we remembered there might be black bears wandering in the neighbourhood at night. A Michi no Eki roadside test station nearby. Nice bright room, neat tidy Japanese style rooms with tatami floor mats, alcove with coffee table and two single sofa chairs beside the window which looked out over the back of the property(great views), small clothes rack, washing machine(100yen per wash), free dryer, efficient and effective air conditioner.

We had an amazing overnight stay at Iris Yu. The place was immaculately clean, good amenities, location was excellent and the receptionist was very king. She gave us a great recommendation to see the famous Hiraizumi lotus flowers!

“Great stay in traditional Japanese style room”
Beautiful property very close to Hiraizumi station, I stayed in a Japanese style room which was an amazing experience. The hosts were very friendly, and helped me to use the laundry facilities. I would definitely use this property again to explore more of the town, it is easy to get to from Ichinoseki Station, and there are restaurants nearby which looked great.

Very large, Japanese style rooms. Had a nice communcal bathing area. Proprietor was very nice and helped me book my next stay in Japanese. She also let me borrow a bike to go see the nearby sites. Close to train station.

“A traditional experience”
Our room was a spacious, Japanese style tatami room, with its own bathroom attached. There was a comfortable sitting area with a view over the neighbouring fields to the surrounding hills. Breakfast was a tray with tradional salmon, rice and pickles, which we like, but there was bread and jam also if you wanted. Staying at Iris Yu was excellent value and allowed us to stay overnight in Hiraizumi, with time to see all the various historic sights. It was an easy walk from the station. Once we realised that Google maps took us to the back if the property, we continued around the block to the front. We found a cosy Izakaya rown a side road for dinner, run by two cheerful mama sans who served us a mountain of food.

“Nice inn for a short stay”
The inn is centrally located, within walking distance of the railway station, several restaurants and some of the main Hiraizumi sights. There's free parking on-site and everything is kept very clean, including the shared bathrooms. The staff are discrete, we hardly saw them but they were readily available when needed. A helpful map with tips for places to eat nearby is provided.
