“Wonderful old charm stay”
What a gem! Close to the famous castle, in an old house with loads of charm. We were greeted by someone who spoke no English but was proficient in using Google Translate. The breakfast was delightful and just the right amount of food. We were also able to order a non-meat version. Hikone is a cute little place with an old charm feeling. We loved just walking around. There are plenty of dinner options just a brief stroll from the ryokan. I highly recommend Honmachi Juku.

The owner and staff were super kind and friendly. I enjoyed 4 days staying there. Especially when I got toothache, the owner and staff were worried about me they even wanted to take me to see a dentist. Luckily the pain was gone by next day. When I come back to Hikone I will definitely stay here again . Highly recommended this traditional Japanese hotel to you !

“Cozy and comfortable stay.”
The home owner took me on a tour of the whole house and explained everything. Very efficient communication via translation app. It was a cozy one night stay and they do provide set breakfast on payment. They have a nice big table in the common room with a Japanese library and a big TV. It is near the Hikone Castle.

Very cosy and welcoming. The area is very nice with the temple just beside it and a small garden. The ryokan is beautiful. The owners are very friendly people.

Well positioned, very convenient and accommodating place. Very traditional building and fittings, absolutely stunning and in the shadow of a temple in the traditional part of the old city. Traditional service too, actually I think the owners live on-site so suited to Japanese but explained everything using a translation app. Delicious and affordable Japanese breakfast. Staff seemed surprised that we didn't leave straight after breakfast but understood.

“No sleep, only deeply disappointed & upset”
Seemingly quite location in the old part of town, got a nice private & sheltered spot for my vehicle. Staff very friendly, small garden space to sit & smoke.

Beautiful old Japanese house in a very central location. The room was really big and confortable, and the shared bathroom were clean. There is a lovely garden and shared common room too!

The atmosphere is traditional and, homely, with a cost free area where you can unwind with other guests and eat..with small lodgings for no hand than a handful of guests. The service was strong by western standards. The owner even drove me to the nearest convenience store when I made dinner enquiries and wanted directions to the nereast convenience store. I was delighted by the washoku breakfast, set me up perfectly for the day.

It's a renovated 180year old home which is a great place to stay. Breakfast is good value & served by the owners. It's a beautiful building immaculately restored.

The host Natsuhara-san really went above and beyond for me, he is very kind. The cleaning ladies who come in the morning are also very kind and we did our best to communicate through the language barrier. Overall I had a great time! It's very close to Hikone Castle and in the historical town area so it's easy to see the attractions.
