A charming, traditional old house near the train station. It gets a bit cold at night and you can hear the neighbors quite clearly, but the house itself and the hospitality are excellent.

“Well worth the visit!”
Beautiful property, felt authentic Japanese. Garden was extraordinary, an oasis in a modern suburb! Staff communicated well and we had everything we needed including a spacious kitchen area. Easy to get to by train.

It was like staying in a grandma's house in the countryside (if my grandma was Japanese) :D. And I mean it in the best way possible - beautiful traditional house with breathtaking garden, old but well kept. Kitchen with everything a person would need for cooking, common space with comfortable floor chairs and a view of the garden. I was staying in the shared room, however was there alone, so I'm not sure about the amount of space when fully booked. Although it was cold outside (6-12°C), the blanket provided was warm enough. Gentleman who helped me with the check-in was very kid and polite, he spoke great English, introduced the accomodation and the tatami tradition and also gave tips on shops and restaurants in the neighbourhood. The train station is close and amazing restaurant with the best (mock/)cocktails is also just around few corners.

“Lovely and affordable accommodation in a historical building.”
Igusa Guest House was truly beautiful in a calm and relaxed environment. It was clean and quiet with a very accomodating host. The guesthouse itself kept a lot of detail from its older times and it was nice to walk around. We used it as a base to explore Kurashiki and Naoshima Island. It was clean and comfortable.

A very beautiful ryokan-style hostel in a quiet town close to Okayama. Great access to Naoshima Island. I really enjoyed experiencing the historic building!

“Very characteristic”
The historical significant building and the common space to meet fellow travelers. It is far out of Okayama city. But it is a great hub to the harbour to visit Setouchi Islands though.

“Would stay here again!”
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the guest house! It was clean, quiet, and SO picturesque. The garden was lovely. We appreciated the full-sized kitchen with an ecclectic selection of dishes to use. The apartment was within walking distance of the train station, a coin laundry, and a grocery store. Would certainly stay here again.

“Beautiful, cosy, calm, meeting other travellers.”
The place is absolutely beautiful. We had amazing connections with the other guests. Everything was very clean, the energy of the place peaceful and welcoming, and Hayashima is a nice little town. We were there mainly to visit Naoshima but I wish we would’ve stayed for even a week. A special place. All over japan this was maybe my favourite place!

“Beautiful guest house”
This hostel is so lovely, it has traditional tatami and futons which are comfier than i thought they would be. The area is known for igusa weaving and you can have a go yourself at the hostel it is really fun. It has good facilities, well equipped kitchen, clean toilets and showers, a lovely common area overlooking the garden. It’s close to coin laundry and supermarket and a few nice restaurants.

“Wonderful stay”
Wonderful stay. Close to the station and easy to find. 10 minutes from Okayama City. Hayashima is a peaceful area and the house is more traditional with tatami mats and a lovely Japanese garden. I stayed for 4 nights and found it comfortable and would like to stay again. The host was very friendly and welcoming

We enjoyed our stay, it's a cool old building. We felt it was overpriced for what you get compared to other places we stayed in our 4 week trip of Japan. No locks on rooms which we would've liked - but the hostel felt very safe. Dated kitchen facilities. Quite far out but easy to get the train into Okayama.

“Very good stay for 1-2 days”
It was a really good stay and a home feel, nice skura garden 5-10min walk from it too so it was a big plus It’s not super clean but it’s what you expect from an older traditional house. The staff was very good but breakfast wasn’t worth it

“最高!”
This was my first time sleeping on a futon. It was surprisingly comfortable and cured my back pain. I would like to use it again.
