“Great stay at BFC !”

BFC is the place to be to sit on a veranda and watch thousands of birds right in front of you. The owner knows his birds / wildlife and is a very good guide, and his wife is a very good cook! I went on 3 safaris inthe Park, there is around 100 elephants at the moment, and crocks, monkeys, snakes, and birds, and not many people! Beats Yala in my mind. We are quite old, and to be able to just sit on our terrasse and watch 1000nd of birds was such a treat!

Excellent location in a small village only five minutes drive to the entrance to Bundala National Park. A small family run property that is located right on the estuary from where the local fisherman depart in their canoes each morning. Good modern building with large covered balcony for each room looking out over the view towards the sea. Big bed, excellent lighting, good modern bathroom. The owners made me a good breakfast and dinner, and organised a Bundala afternoon safari for me with a very good guide, where I saw many birds, elephants, crocodiles. A small place, well run with a nice family atmosphere.

Chamin and his wife really looked after us. He took us on safari and she cooked some great food. The location is excellent for birding. On safari we saw 42 different species in 3 hours along with loads of other animals.

“Excellent budget base for exploring Bundala.”

The top balcony had an outstanding view over the lagoon, where idle hours could be spent in relaxation watching water buffalo, fishermen, local life on the waterside and an endless parade of birds. Bee-eaters, sunbirds, pelicans, storks, herons,...orioles, kingfishers and raptors to name but a few. Our morning safari to Bundala at around 35 pounds each was unforgettable with too many birds and animals to mention, from an Osprey to golden jackals and elephants. The accommodation was perfect for our two night stay, with tea and coffee, and Aircon in the room. We did not experience any mosquitos and the room was clean and quiet, with a large, comfortable bed. Toiletries were provided and the water was hot. A family run business, the owners were attentive, friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Breakfast was good, with hoppers, fruit, omelettes and jam etc. Dinner was limited in options but did the trick. We used local buses and the number 31 bus from Ella dropped us only 100 m away from the cottages. We had a lovely stay, thankyou.

What an amazing place to relax, the view is stunning overlooking an estuary with birds everywhere. Great kind friendly hosts, who helped me very much when I had a serious injury. Highly recommend to any one who likes Peace and nature

Beautiful location right on the wetlands. View on many birds and close to Bundala National Park. Breakfast, lunch and dinner options on site. Very good.

Clean and spacious rooms, delicious food and friendly staff. The tour of Bundala national park was wonderful thanks to Mr. Chamin with his vast knowledge and professional demeanour.

A wonderful, family run business in a beautiful location. Welcoming, friendly and hard working, we couldn’t fault the level of hospitality. The food was exceptional and the room comfortable (we slept on the top floor of the tower and the views across the water were stunning). The safari in Bundala park was great. An abundance of elephants, crocodiles and exotic birds…. but only one other vehicle. I couldn’t recommend Flamingo Cottages more highly.

The most amazing location. Wonderful hosts. Delicious food. Bundala National Park has a great selection of wetland birds and other birds, plus a great place to peacefully watch elephants.

“Superb Serene Spot!”

The location is magical. Right on the edge of Bundala National Park. Magnificent view from our top floor balcony. Tranquil. Wonderful host family and great food. We loved the safari guided by our host ... seeing elephants in the wild for the first time, an all the bird life! When we loved the breakfast pancakes we got a cooking lesson in the host's kitchen!

Chamin, his wife and his sister are welcoming and personable hosts, sharing their beautiful property that overlooks a wildlife-filled lagoon. The day we arrived Chamin and his wife were making their way back from Colombo however he graciously arranged for his sister to cook us a meal last minute and organised a safari tour of Bundala National Park for the following day. Chamin is a local, born and raised for a few generations, he loves and respects wildlife and is an avid photography, so he was our tourguide of the park, sharing his knowledge of the area and the many species in Bundala. We were fortunate enough to get upclose views of elephants, crocodiles, deer, monkeys and many species of birds such as bee easters, ibis, pelicans, osprey, eagles and many more. We chose Bundala NP to explore because it is smaller and there are less jeeps, however the wildlife and nature there is just as incredible as the bigger parks in our opinion. The room itself was spacious enough for four adults and had two balconies that were perfect for bird/animal watching

If you want to immerse yourself in wildlife, sitting on your balcony with the diversity of nature all around you then this is the place for you! You can watch the local fishermen going about their day surrounded by buffaloes and so much bird life. Chamin is a brilliant guide and, having lived here all of his life, his knowledge is unmatched. Definitely go on safari with him as he knows Bundala National Park like the back of his hand. The food is amazing - cannot recommend highly enough; we were sad to leave.
