The convenient location. Where it's half way from the town and half way to most of the attractions. Kana-san is amazing and wonderful! She helped me to get my lost bag in the bus, helped book onsen and dinner spots!

No rating scale is high enough to express the hospitality of Kana and how she makes you feel like a friend at her home. She runs this hostel and is always in a good mood and a smile, while helping you get the best out of your stay in Hakone. We will never forget the stay at this hotel, thank you so much Kana!

The bed was really comfortable. I had a place to charge my phone and i was also given a fan. The location is really convenient. It is near the train station and a bus stop. As a solo female traveler i felt incredibly safe. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

I don’t know where to start, this place unexpectedly felt like home. The location is both convenient and beautiful, and the building itself has a unique, charming character. But what truly made the experience special was Mrs. Kana. She created such a warm and welcoming atmosphere that it’s hard to describe. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who values genuine hospitality and will treat the space with the same respect it’s given.

We stayed for just one night and had a great stay! The hostess, Kana, is a total superstar—super kind, her expertise and patience are invaluable, whether she’s fine-tuning your Hakone itinerary or navigating the Shinkansen booking system for you. Such a warm and welcoming hostel. Kana also helped us book a private onsen when we arrived. We highly recommend. We left our luggage at the hostel while we hiked Mt. Kintoki (highly recommend for Mt Fuji views) and there was no issue.

The staff, Kana was the highlight of this stay. She’s super knowledgeable about the area and made great recommendations about restaurants, onsens, hiking, transportation etc. She even called ahead and made reservations for places. She really went above and beyond. The hostel it self was clean and had all the necessities. I can’t wait to visit again!

Our stay (2 nights) at Hakone Hostel 1914 was truly extraordinary. We stayed in a private Japanese-style room and absolutely loved it. I especially want to mention Kana-san, the host, who was incredibly kind, helpful, and honestly one of the nicest people we’ve met. She helped us book an onsen, gave us many great tips on where to go, showed us how to use the kitchen utensils, and always spoke to us in such a warm and friendly way. Her approach is something truly special. Beyond that, the hostel itself is in a great location — there’s a bakery right across the street — and it is very well equipped. For the price we paid, it felt like discovering a hidden gem.

The hostel was amazing the location is perfect, the facilities are in great condition, it was well worth the money we spent, the hostel had this homely feel and big appreciation to Kana she was amazing super helpful, friendly, gave great advice on what to do and how to get there and was great to have a talk to. This place is a gem

I had a lovely stay at the hostel. It has several bus stop closeby, it is close to restaurant and also to onsen. The bed are quite big :) The host is a super kind woman that has made this stay feel more like home. Super recommended! Thanks a lot!!!

Kana is the most wonderful host, she knows great places to visit and was so gracious and accommodating. We loved the whole stay here, met great guests and the location was perfect. Comfy bed, excellent facilities. Would stay again, also really appreciated the character of the classic building, right across from the original Fujiya hotel. I felt right at home here.

“The perfect welcoming home for a solo traveller”

This hostel couldn’t have been any better. Kana is the most welcoming, kindest and helpful host I’ve ever come across. The hostel instantly felt like home.

“Accommodating host and cute hostel.”

The whole hostel was lovely and the host just great and super accommodating. If you're looking for somewhere super private this might not be the place for you as the bathroom and things are shared (as with most hostels) but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our host provided earlier plugs because it's an old house and it squeaks a bit but we hardly noticed it.

Kana was so nice and friendly, she really made my stay in Hakone! I was recommended lots of things to do and given a map of where it all was and Kana answered any questions I had. The room itself was lovely, I stayed in the private room that has a private toilet. Everything was nice and clean including the shared facilities. I will definitely stay here the next time I’m in Hakone.
