Situated atop a hill in Hakone, Gyokutei offers an authentic Japanese accommodation with an indoor hot spring bath. Hakoneyumoto Train Station is a leisurely 8-minute walk from the ryokan. All rooms feature tatami (woven-straw) flooring and traditional futon bedding. Each are equipped with a flat-screen TV, a refrigerator and a private bathroom with a bath, shower and free toiletries. Extras include slippers, a hair dryer and yukata robes. Luggage storage space, a massage service and a garden are all on offer at Gyokutei Ryokan. For dinner, traditional kaiseki (multi-course) meals are served in guest rooms. Hakone Open-air Museum is 50-minute train ride away on the Hakone Tozan Line, while Hakone Gora Park is 55-minute train ride from the property. Lake Ashi is a 30-minute drive away.

What an incredible place with a true Japanese atmosphere, a fantastic garden, and authentic Japanese food. What I really loved was the Japanese lady wearing traditional clothing who took care of the dinner and breakfast. She was able to transport us into another dimension, making us feel as if we were in Japan hundreds of years ago.

“Wonderful Experience”
Our first family experience in a traditional Ryokan could not have been more perfect. From the moment we stepped in, we were embraced by a wonderful atmosphere. We stayed in a room that felt more like a private apartment; it was incredibly spacious and had that beautiful, calming scent of natural wood. Sleeping on the tatami and futon was an exceptional experience—surprisingly comfortable and authentic. The dining was a real highlight: both the traditional dinner and breakfast were of the highest quality, a true journey into Japanese flavors. We also thoroughly enjoyed the onsen, which was pristine and incredibly relaxing. Above all, the staff was simply wonderful and impeccable. A special thank you to the young lady who welcomed us: her kindness and grace made us feel instantly at ease, making our family feel truly special. It was the perfect introduction to Japanese hospitality. We will cherish these memories forever!

“One of a kind experience”
- once you arrive at the place, it feels like stepping into another world. Everything is curated to the smallest details and the staff constantly goes the extra mile to ensure you have a smooth stay. - The rooms are beautifully decorated and have lots of amenities. - the food is incredible, both dinner and breakfast are 10/10 - the overall experience was one of a kind. Lovely and peaceful stay. Really enjoyed the onsen experience. We had breakfast and dinner served in our room by Yukie, who was wonderful. The food was great and gave us the opportunity to try an authentic dining experience. Room was big and spacious.

“Unforgettable Stay with Exceptional Hospitality”
Gyokutei is a beautiful traditional ryokan with outstanding hospitality. The rooms are spacious and elegant, the private onsen was wonderful, and the kaiseki meals were both delicious and beautifully presented. A special thanks to the attendant who guided us and served our meals with such warmth and care—she truly made our stay unforgettable.

True Japanese Ryokan experience! The staff were spectacular, the food was out of this world!! The room, atmosphere everything was perfect. We loved the public onsen and my husband was still allowed to enter with his tattoos since the hotel was not busy. Our little onsen in our room was amazing too! Overall this was an amazing experience and we definitely recommend it! The staff were so so so friendly and welcoming!!
