What can I say? Hakodate is a town full of spa resort hotels which I'm sure are all luxurious and enjoyable. But this is a chance to stay somewhere you will never forget. The decor is fun and wild, the whole place just feels like (and I think is) an extension of a home. The beds were classic japanese style and comfortable. We had our own bathroom but the shared bathrooms had a fully traditional seated bath which next time I would love to use. All amenities (towels tea bathrobes heat/aircon) were there. Room larger than you expect from Japan. And the staff were the heart of the place - upon leaving the man checking us out gave us a bag of treats and checked the weather in our next destination in the newspaper. And all of this for an incredible price and spotlessly clean. English is enough to do everything you would need. If you have made it to Hokkaido don't miss the chance to experience this place - you can stay in a resort hotel anywhere!

The location of Pension Puppy Tail is very convenient - close to the JR station, tram and bus station. The owners are very friendly and helpful - even gave us some recommendations for transportation and such. Our room was on the second floor, and the owners were also very happy to help with moving the luggage up and down.

Staff/owner were great - so welcoming and even a snack pack for the train when we left Room was exactly as advertised - small, Japanese style but comfortable Place was spotless Electric blanket! It was cold one night and this was great

The staff were friendly, the property was immaculatly clean and the location was great.

The room was full of amenities, especially the private bathroom. There were shampoo, conditioner, body soap, hand soap, alcohol hand sanitizer, moisturiser lotion, water cleanser, and oil cleanser. The room itself was quite cozy and somewhat spacious for Japan's standard.

Pension Puppy Tail is a perfect guesthouse. It is so well run and had everything you could need. The owner was welcoming, kind and generous. I would stay here again if in Hakodate and highly recommend.

In my opinion, it was the perfect location to explore without being in the heart of the madness. Staff was very welcoming and everything was exceptionally clean. Would love to visit again!

We loved everything about this cute and cozy place. The owners, the location, the room, the futons... to us it felt like a 5 star hotel. We even had a free upgrade (to a private bathrrom) bc the shared bathroom had pipe issues. And the owner gifted us with nice and yummy snacks❤️ We would love to stay here again. Super recommended!

Really cosy place with a nice atmosphere less than 10 min from the station. For a futon the bed was comfortable.

Nice guest house in a very good location, 5 minutes from the station and the fish market. Staff were very kind and friendly.

“A home style pension close to town.”

Great location with quirky decor, many many slippers available. Room was comfy. Staff super welcoming and gave it all a homely feel.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. On my last day, because it was raining quite heavily and I couldn't get a taxi, they sent me to the station with their own car and gifted me with an umbrella. Very much appreciated! The room was quite a good size too for one person but can be squeezy for two. But all in all, very comfortable and I had a great stay, especially for the price :)

We felt there was a very personal touch. They gave us a ride to the train station with a to go package of snacks for the trip.

“Friendly, welcoming and very convenient.”

The pension is really well located only a ten minute walk from the station and 20 minutes from the Brick Warehouses. Despite being on a main road, it was extremely quiet at night and we got very good nights' sleep. The room was small but felt lovely and cosy and the staff were very attentive and kind. The slippers provided were the best of any of our stays in Japan - very comfy! There are no lifts but staff helped with our cases and it wasn't a problem.

The hospitality was fantastic. They sent a welcome message before arrival, including detailed instructions including photos and landmarks of how to get there. They also gave guests a little packet of snacks at check out time (super sweet!), and sent a thank you message after check out. This is the kind of hospitality that a person always remembers. The man running the place is extremely kind, friendly, and welcoming.
