“Excellent stay with a friendly family”

The family I stayed with were very friendly and helpful, they organised a taxi to Sigriya and a safari for me for a good price. The bed was comfortable and the facilities were basic but clean. The breakfast was very good, and they are flexible on when you want to have it. I didn't use the pool but it looked clean and well maintained. The area was lovely and quiet away from the main road.

It was an exceptional stay in the chill town of Habarana. Lasantha was an exceptional host, offering us more than just accommodation. He helped us get around and show the surroundings for a fair price. Pool was also very clean and the tenperature was perfect. The food we had there was also very good. Everything was really good.

“Unique oasis!”

The most unique accommodation, a beautiful wooden cabin on a road just 5min walk to the main street. Lots of nature sounds, surrounded by lovely greenery. Air con was excellent to have as well as a fridge to keep water cold. The pool was such a treat to have, which we used once a day as a lovely way to cool down. The breakfast was tasty and our hosts kindly cooked us dinner on three of the nights which was delicious. Really lovely and attentive hosts, who also recommended some great activities to do whilst here - providing transport to and from. Comfy bed and mosquito net was great to have.

The owner and his wife were fantastic and helped organise an amazing Safari. It is in a very quiet location with wildlife all around. We saw lots of monkeys and hundreds of butterflies from our balcony. The pool was an added bonus in the heat. The breakfast was very good and we were only a short walk from the main town.

After the chaos of Colombo escaping to this amazing place was absolutely great. This family saved us actually picking us up from a six hour train ride. The location is a short little walk to the shops. I got my SIM from there, it was easy, just remember to have your passport. The couple made us a lovely welcoming drink and additionally the breakfast was both filling and tasty. I would highly recommend this stay.

We enjoyed a 3-night stay in the wood cabin. Everything was clean and comfortable. Air conditioning, shower and Wifi all worked well. The swimming pool was nice. The host family very friendly and helpful. The included breakfast was acceptable. Location was convenient for hiring a driver to visit Sigariya and Polonnaruwa and, within walking distance from the homestay, were many restaurants, supermarket and pharmacy.

This place is paradise! So welcoming and comfortable. The pool was a real bonus that we appreciated and put to good use. The location is near everything you need, but still really peaceful. The family is really helpful and kind. Highly, highly recommended!

“FANTASTIC HOME STAY!! You should stay here”

Fabulous home stay that you must experience! The home stay is incredibly clean, well maintained and comfortable. We stayed in an air conditioned room and I would recommend this. The pool was great for a refreshing swim each afternoon. Breakfast was plentiful, fresh and delicious. The location is excellent, quiet and away from the very noisy main road yet a short walk to reach restaurants. We had a great meal at ‘Roti Cafe’ and would recommend this restaurant. The owners of New Star Home stay are wonderful, such friendly and helpful people. Loved our stay here!

Great location for Habarana and lovely home cooked breakfast! We decided to stay an extra night and they gave us a discount which was very generous. The hosts at New Star are also very happy to help organise tours and trips - as with everything always worth checking the price before! Overall lovely stay :)

I liked the fact that the location was close to many restaurants, spas and you could easily walk around the village. The room that I booked was fine for one person with very basic stuff (only a soap is offered), the family was friendly and helpful in giving info when needed

The cabana stay was especially wonderful: a charming and peaceful wooden cabin with air conditioning, located right next to the pool, offering the ideal spot to unwind. The atmosphere at the homestay is calm and serene, surrounded by nature, with the sound of birds in the background. At the same time, it’s just a short walk to the village center, where local shops and authentic Sri Lankan food spots can be found. It’s the best of both worlds: the energy and flavors of local life within reach, while being able to return to the quiet comfort of the homestay to truly relax. The hospitality here is truly exceptional. Lasantha, the host, is incredibly helpful and accommodating, always ready to assist with directions, arrange transport, or answer any questions. He even has his own tuk-tuk and is happy to take guests around sightseeing for a fair price whenever interested. If he’s not available, he makes sure an alternative is arranged. His wife is equally lovely, preparing delicious breakfasts each morning, every day something different and special. Their warmth and kindness are felt in every interaction. Even during a longer stay, the care continues, they kindly offered help with laundry, checked in regularly, and were always just a quick message or call away when something was needed. It’s rare to find hosts this attentive and thoughtful. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a heartwarming, peaceful, and authentic stay in Habarana. A true gem, thank you for everything!

This homestay is fantastic, the rooms are clean and comfortable. The pool is amazing, so nice after a hot days exploring. The breakfasts were lovely and I had a dinner here which was delicious. The host is very happy to help arrange trips and I went with him to Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa both for very reasonable prices. He picked me up from town after dinner, and helped arrange trains etc.
