Very welcoming place for travellers where you can share good talks and fun nights with other people ! Nathalie is very kind and always shares a lot of stuff about Polynesian culture, she is a lovely person and always here to help you !!

The hosts are very friendly and try to teach something about Polynesian culture. I liked the village the place was at even if it’s far away from everything and the hostel doesn’t offer pick up.

I very rarely leave negative reviews, but I believe it’s important for fellow travelers to know that the human experience at this property can be unpredictable and, in my case, violent and distressing. Be prepared for a potentially reactive environment if any issues arise.

Lovely place to immerse yourself in French Polynesia. Natalie is super kind and does activity nights from time to time where you can learn a lot about Polynesian culture. Everybody in the village is super nice.

Natalie is a wonder host! Alaroots is amazing - we met some truly lovely human beings here, learnt a lot about polynesian culture and just had a blast. Do go expecting a 5* hotel - it is a true hostel, and a cultural experience but also comfortable and has everything you could need! Natalie's daughter also helped us hire a car for an incredible rate from a local company - which saves us a load of money and was very patient with our rudimentary french skills!! Thank you Alaroots and Natalie!!! Maruuru roa!

Cultural activities, value for money

Amazing entertainment. You learn something new about the culture every night, so be excited for that. Tata is very kind and shows you the surroundings and their dances, cultural customs. She has a cute little daughter who dances beautifully too. Depending on the length of your stay you will learn how to make bracelets, flower crowns and how to open a coconut. Lovely hosts that keep you entertained.

Hosts Natalie and Papi were the highlight of staying at Alaroots. Some of the nicest, most welcoming people I have ever met. They provided great insight on local culture and traditions.

Best hostel experience I ever had! The hostel itself is basic but has everything you need. The location is incredible; it’s in a small village by the lagoon and there is a stunning 1 hour walk to a perfect deserted beach. Natalie who runs the hostel is a legend, she makes every new arrival feel like family and her energy is infectious. I loved our dance class and traditional French Polynesian group meal. I’ll always remember my Alaroots stay!

A perfect place for a budget night. If you are lucky as we were, you could stay in the dormitory room with really nice fellow travelers, and have a great time telling stories and sharing ideas about the island. The place is very simple, but everything was clean and tidy. The kitchen is well equipped, the bathroom was nice with some flowers. Beds were clean and comfortable, we enjoyed our one night stay.
