“Lovely, very comfortable stay a little ways out of the center”

Our room was amazing! Very large, with a couch and table, as well as two comfortable beds. Yakuta provided. The bathroom was great - separate toilet room, a large room with the sink, and a separate shower/tub room. The TV allowed for streaming services, which was great. The staff was very friendly - no English, but we were able to use translation apps as needed. Shuttle service provided (on a specific schedule) from the bus station and from the town square. We are animal lovers, and there was a cat who seems to live out behind the hotel who we got to see through the window, which made us happy. She seems well taken-care of by the staff.

Exceptionally well appointed, very spacious room with huge bath. Must have been recently renovated because everything was brand new!

Very clean. Enormous size of room plus balcony. Great hot tub on balcony. Free parking. Lovely big bathroom great amenities. Excellent cleaning staff.

The room was huge and beds were comfortable ( but we got two king singles rather than a queen or king bed).

Lovely hotel, seems recently renovated, or new. Perfectly located with a very short walk to the castle. Also, easy walk to the beautiful old town, where you can see coy carp in the street canals. Note that you may wish to pre arrange meals at the hotel when booking the room. We hadn't, but the staff did recommend a wonderful sashimi restaurant. Just something to note, we couldn't find anywhere open for breakfast though in the small town, so take snacks, if you don't book the meal plan.

“A beautiful hotel near Gujo Castle with great service, though some rooms face a noisy generator”

It’s located very close to Gujo Castle and offers a beautiful view. The room was very spacious and everything was spotlessly clean. They also arranged a transfer to pick me up from the train station when I arrived in Gujo — which was a lifesaver, as it was raining.

Absolutely lovely hotel well located close to the castle and a short (steep) walk to the centre of town. Excellently appointed rooms with plenty of space and a luxurious bathroom.

Breakfast time is too early, I'm sleepy. The air conditioner is limited to heater mode, so I needed to open window to get cold air (it's difficulty to get the desire temperature.)

“What a lovely stay at Hotel Sekisuien!!”

It is very clean and the room was spacious. We enjoyed the dinner and breakfast provided by the hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful even though they barely speak English.

“Traditional Japanese Hotel perched on top of the hill right next to the castle.”

The best feature of the hotel is her proximity to the castle. I put up with those awful narrow lanes to the car park at the foot of the castle to see harassed drivers queuing there with no hope of finding a parking space or being up at the castle before sunset while I just zoomed up to the hotel next door, parked my car and walked to the castle in 10 minutes. That's why the hotel can proudly say on the hotel information that they were not an onsen hotel and they didn't have a big public outdoor bath. Guest should wash in their private bathroom if they needed to. The room was spacious, comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was sumptuous and tasty. I'm a bit tired of the buffet style breakfast but they offered a J breakfast set which is way better to me. Coffee and other welcome drinks were available in the lounge all day. The safe in the room is much bigger than average.

Hotel room is clean, and have a very good traditional Japanese breakfast.

I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Sekisuien. It is a nice modern hotel, the staff were very responsive and friendly. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious with attentive servers. Gujo Hachiman is a little off the beaten path but I'm glad I visited the town and stayed here.

Beautiful situation and the view from the terrace was lovely. Spacious rooms and comfortable beds. Free parking.

“A truly pampering and tranquil place to rest and see the castle and town”

Ten minutes walk uphill to the castle along a beautiful winding road, and similar down to village. However taxis are cheap quick to arrive and easily booked by the hotel reception. The staff are incredible as is the chef, and restaurant staff- the kindest reception and most timely serving of delicious food. The hotel is surrounded by lovely Japanese gardens with an amazing view to the town and across the valley. A real escape into the Japanese countryside. We also loved our room - it was huge, remarkably clean with large comfortable beds, fabulous bath and we were provided with gorgeous toiletries and all the essentials. We wished we had booked for much longer, given the work the staff out in to prepare rooms.

Very rigid staff, no flexibility. The famous ‚omotenashi‘ was absent. I came in late, in rain and cold, and asked for a reservation at their restaurant. Which they refused, because it seems they only serve food if the room includes breakfast/dinner. No help provided to eat outside. It was not Japan.

“Best place to stay in Gujo Hachiman!”

Outstanding place! Really loved it; The room was so cozy and comfortable, big too, which is something for Japan. Their bathroom had a nice hot tub where you can easily take hot baths. The location was fantastic! Underneath the castle, such a beautiful location indeed! And only 10 minute albeit uphill walk to the town of Gujo Hachiman. Their breakfast was amazing, home cooked Miso Soup, vegetable soup and was very filling. There's also free coffee all day long and orange juice & Tea from the afternoons to early evenings. The staff was also very polite, nice and pleasant. Will overall recommend!
