The property is very outdated you can stay in a premiere inn in Britain for much the same price but with up to date facilities. I don’t know what your budget hotels are like generally but your Gueret example does you know favours. Generally accommodation seems more expensive in rural areas in France.

“As expected”
Room was reasonably basic, as you would expect for the price you are paying. Staff were very friendly and helpful and breakfast was better than expected. We wanted a cheap one night stay while we were in the area and that is what we got.
