1) Ryokan has traditional atmosphere and open-air onsen. It was great to relax in such a peaceful place. 2) Dinners and breakfasts were a piece of art! Meals were served in a beautiful way and consisted of numerous Japanese dishes and delicious local fish and beef. 3) All staff members were helpful and friendly. Ryokan owner was really nice and easy-going, it was great to have some small talks with her.

The staff at the ryokan were all very friendly and welcoming. The woman's onsen was quite small but very relaxing and clean. The room was bright and clean. The breakfast and dinners were all great, and sourced with local ingredients. I wish that they gave us menus with our meals so we could know what we were eating exactly.

The hostess is very hospital and helpful, we love the style of running her business. Guests feel comfortable and relax in the hotel. The Japanese food is so good and various plates provided everyday. We stayed for four days and enjoyed different meal per day. There is bus stop fifty meters from the hotel and is very convenient to Takayama and some places.

Good atmosphere and good location. The staff are lovely and friendly. The breakfast was delicious, especially the grilled miso.^^

Room was clean and cozy..so bad that we didn’t try their onsen because arrived late ..their breakfast was yummy which was in Japanese style breakfast .

The family hosts were personable and warm without being clingy. The lobby feels like a welcoming living room. It was a real Japan experience that way. The small Onsen facilities for indoor and outdoor were a treat, the breakfast just lovely.

In this structure we received a welcome and kindness that we have rarely experienced, the management is family-run and everyone is so helpful and kind. We had the dinner and breakfast formula and both were very good, with excellent quality products, we were very satisfied. In this Ryokan there is also an onsen with a very beautiful indoor and outdoor tub, perfect for relaxing. I recommend to everyone who wants to have an authentic experience at Gero Onsen. When we come to these areas again we will certainly return to this property where we felt at home and welcome. Thank you!!!!

Everything especially staff

The staff was really friendly and the onsen was amazing!!! We felt very welcomed and would love to return if given the chance.

Our stay at the Izumi-so was very enjoyable. The family running it was incredibly friendly and helpful. It was a joy coming back after a long day of hiking and to be welcomed there. The traditional Japanese breakfast was delicious and freshly made every day. The Onsen is clean and especially the outdoor bath is quite beautiful. If I have the chance to come back to Gero Onsen I will again stay there.

What a pleasant stay it was! The staff was super nice and took the time to talk with me. The food was amazing (I'll think a long time about the Hida beef) and fortunately I was the only female customer at the time so I had both the interior and exterior onsen for myself (which saved me a lot of embarrassment as I was a first timer). I needed a break and breath of fresh air during my trip and Izumi-so made me feel right at home!

The host was welcoming in showing us around our room and accomodating in allowing us to leave our luggage early, before check in time. Dinner and breakfast was truly excellent, both in taste and presentation. Even the room we were seated in for our meals was lovely. The onsen was clean and the outdoor pool was serenely set which was so relaxing. The room was spacious and thoughtfully decorated; the linen fresh and the bedding very comfortable. The host was kind to offer us a lift to the station; although it wasn't too far in walking, but it was a kind gesture all the same. It was a lovely stay and we truly enjoyed ourselves!

We were warmly welcomed and immediately felt at ease. The kaiseki dinner with local specialties was fantastic, and the breakfast with homemade miso was equally delightful — ごちそうさまでした. The onsen may be small, but it is beautifully designed and very relaxing. Throughout our stay, we truly felt like being at home.

From the moment we were picked up by the owner of this family owned ryokan, we felt like we were home. Owners & their son were super friendly and helpful with everything. Spacious room with comfortable blankets and pillows. Breakfast and dinner were as good as we had expected. We liked the outdoor onsen very much.
