“Charming cosy heritage inn”

We had a wonderful stay in this charming boutique inn. The place is so full of character and filled with so much historic charm. Hospitality is impeccable. The staff are super friendly, caring and attentive.The room is spacious and spotless with comfortable beds. We love the breakfast spread. Everything is so fresh. The food served at the cafe is wholesome and tasty too. Location is excellent, walking distance to most attractions and restaurants.

“One of my favourite hotels in all of Southeast Asia”

Loved how the interior stays true to the history of the building as one of Southeast Asia's oldest Chinese medical halls, whilst also remaining very comfortable. Was in a perfect location — in walking distance of Georgetown's best art/souvenir stores and its most famous streets as well as several vegetarian restaurants (as part of the charms of living in Little India). I only had to walk <5 minutes to reach heritage sites like Peranakan Mansion. <10 minutes to reach Cheong Fatt Tze's Blue Mansion or the Sun Yat-Sen Museum. Bistro Tang also looks out onto Penang Street, so you can people-watch while you eat breakfast or dine in the evening. I stayed in Loft 18 as a solo traveller, which suited me perfectly. Also loved that there is ample drinking water downstairs and a drop-off service for the hotel to mail your postcards for you. Laundry was also done for me within 24 hours.

“Immerse yourself in the culture of Georgetown”

I have lived in Penang before and this time I was visiting. I chose this place as it is located on my favourite street in Little India. Also I've patronised this place a few times when I lived there. The location is absolutely perfect to explore Georgetown and the entire island as easy to get Grab everywhere to and from. We walked from the ferry terminal which took only 10 mins. I saw comments about the stairs, but now there is a lift. They think of everything! Breakfast is good! They even support small local vendors around the area to spread the wealth. We got some lovely nasi lemak bungkus which was delicious and lots of kueh too (local cakes/dessert). You can also get eggs done the way you like it and toast and bread. I like that the breakfast is light. Bonus is this place is also a well established cafe! So if you feel tired, you can stay in all day and eat at the cafe instead. They're usually fully booked, so book fast! The rooms are lovely and clean. Ceiling fan and aircond to keep you cool. Coffee capsule machine in the hallway and glass bottles of water provided throughout the day. Lots of storage space which I feel you can't even get in big hotel chains. An amazing make up mirror above the sink with lots of lighting. As you can tell, I'm highly recommending this place if you'd like to immerse yourself in 'real' life in Penang. Also if you support sustainability, this place even line their bins with paper instead of plastic. Excellent job to the team at Ren I Tang! We will be back!

“A comfortable stay in a unique piece of history”

The Inn was a very unique place to stay, steeped in so much history. Love the handmade touches and commitment to sustainability. The breakfast every day was absolutely delicious (we loved the banana fritters, roti canai and fresh mango!) and staff were so lovely.

“An old Chinese building in the Indian area, interesting and convenient”

My room is clean, spacious and well-equipped. The breakfast is nice and staff are friendly and helpful. Situated in the Indian area, it feels safe to walk at night. A grocery store is across the street, many restaurants and banks are nearby, really convenient.

Beautiful hotel, in a good location. I wish we'd been able to stay for longer.

“Stay here”

This was one of the best hotel stays of my life—and I’ve stayed in quite a few hotels. The property is full of charm and has clearly benefited from a fantastic renovation. It’s family-owned, and it shows: the staff are accommodating, genuinely welcoming, and always eager to help with any request or answer any question. I stayed for four nights and could easily have stayed another week—it’s that kind of place. Breakfast is excellent, and the bistro is a great choice for both lunch and dinner. If you’re visiting Penang, don’t hesitate to stay at the Inn—you won’t regret it. I highly recommend booking the corner room with the bathtub.

Location and staff are amazing. Easy to walk anywhere in town. Could add a few more options for breakfast. Would stay here again if we returned to George Town

“The staff made our stay giving us detailed history of the area.”

Loved that the owners have spent years bringing this old heritage building back from the brink. They’ve kept the character and display lots of the Chinese trinkets from the original owners recycling the timber as much as possible. No use of plastics at all. Having a café on sight was great.

The room was HUGE. We were asked to remove our shoes and I love that, it shows how clean the place is! Breakfast was good. Staff were very welcoming and helped us with parking.
