An absolute gem in the heart of Tuscany! The location is fantastic, surrounded by pure peace and tranquility. The people at Il Defizio have done an amazing job with the place—everything was perfectly neat, clean, and incredibly comfortable. It was so serene and quiet that it truly felt like a home away from home. Highly recommended!

“Absolutely Breathtaking”
Il Defizio's location could not be better, the hotel is surrounded by incredible fields and an amazing view of the nearby hills. Our cabin had a small table on the balcony and we could enjoy a beautiful dinner with stunning views. The hotel is close to Volterra, you can benefit from a really nice walk in the beautiful town and buy some provisions and experience a wonderful dinner with an outstanding view. Breakfast during the morning was delicious and abundant.

The location was exceptional for visiting Florence, Certaldo and other Tuscan areas. The setting for the villa was beautiful overlooking the Tuscan hillsides with a beautiful pool.

“Beautiful calm Tuscan resort”
Incredibly kind and genuinely welcoming staff. Excellent breakfast with freshly made fritatta and lots of other choices. Gorgeous views of Tuscan hills. The room was nicely decorated and the bed was comfy. The bathroom had both a shower and a bathtub. Apart from that, it’s a great location to make day trips to bigger Tuscan cities like Florence, Pisa, Siena … We also visited San Gimigniano, Certaldo Alto (really lovely and less crowded!), Volterra and Peccioli (especially recommended to art lovers). All in all, a very nice experience! Next time we’re returning in the summer to make use of the gorgeous pool too.

“A wonderful and quiet retreat during the warmer months”
Il Defizio is amazing as are the staff. Sitting my the pool is everything you hope for. Visitors definitely need a car and I recommend getting food and drinks before your arrival. Many lovely wineries nearby. The breakfast each morning is excellent (plus the coffee!)

“Perfect!!”
Our stay at Il Defizio was truly wonderful during our honeymoon. The property is beautifully located in the Tuscan countryside, with a lovely and relaxing atmosphere. The pool area was amazing, perfect for enjoying the views and sunshine. We also had a fantastic lunch at the restaurant — the food was delicious and freshly prepared. The waiter was always so kind, funny, and genuinely attentive, which made our experience even more memorable. It was also great that our dog was welcome here. Overall, Il Defizio is a place full of charm, hospitality, and care. We would love to come back and definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Tuscany.

Super friendly people. We stayed in the junior suite and got excellent value for money. Views are amazing, breakfast was delicious everything was clean and the extras (eg. Wine, snacks,… were very fair priced).

From every corner of the property, you’re treated to sweeping panoramas of Tuscan hills, olive groves, and cypress-lined paths — the perfect backdrop for morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. Sunsets over Volterra are unforgettable and linger in your memory long after you leave. The food is another highlight. Daily breakfasts are fresh, varied, and full of local flavors, while the lunches and dinners, which are served twice a week are a true feast — both for the palate and the soul. I especially recommend the themed evenings with wine and regional specialties. The pool? Spotless and serene. The water was crystal clear, and the surrounding area was perfect for unwinding — an ideal spot to relax after a day of exploring. The rooms meet every expectation. Beautiful property conveniently located by short car ride between lovely wineries, towns and restaurants. The rooms was very comfortable with air conditioning and a spectacular view of the hills. A family owned and run property, we enjoyed an amazing dinner on the first night (avail. Mon & Thurs). Breakfast and lunches were also great! The team were also helpful it assisting us with making dinner reservations at local restaurants.

“Perfect Tuscan Getaway”
We had the most beautiful stay at Il Defizio. The lovely family were so welcoming and accomodating to every need and we felt right at home. It was a nice change of scenery from busy cities we had previously been in and could not recommend more to those looking for a Tuscan stay at a budget friendly cost. I would definitely return with my whole family and upgrade to one of the larger villas.
