The staff, food, room quality, 20m pool & location are fantastic! The land safari was excellent plus lunch at the reservoir :) The SPECIAL feature here is that you may be the only vehicle observing the wildlife. I loved seeing a jackal, & a baby elephant in the evening light. And the 6am climb up the mountain is great too.

The lodge is set in a beautiful location, and feels really out of the way. Staff are wonderful, and the range of activities is amazing. We did the boat and jeep safaris which were fab - we saw lots of elephants and birds. The naturalists are all really knowledgeable and passionate about the local flora and fauna.

“Great place from where to explore Gal Oya National Park”

One of our favourite places to stay while in Sri Lanka. We had wonderful visits of the village, a boat safari and a jeep safari with the best guide Reshan finding us a herd of elephants! We stayed in a Villa with a plunge pool which was perfect for cooling off after a busy day. The staff was very friendly, courteous, helping us with luggage and walking to our villa at night. We highly recommend you stay here if you come to this area. You won't regret it!

Absolutely everything about this place is amazing - from the staff, the rooms, pool and experiences on offer. The naturists are exceptional - our guides Lakshman and Sampath were so knowledgeable, kind and wonderful. It is truly a special gem of a place and our favourite place we stayed in Sri Lanka. We would love to come back!

“Hidden gem in the middle of nature.”

The lodge is amazing!! Sooo beautiful in the middle of a hidden gem national park. Fantastic big comfortable huts, beautiful open dining room, nice pool, in the middle of nature. The naturalist guide, Lucky, was absolutely amazing. He gave us the passion for birds and we had great meeting with an elephant during the safari lunch. We made also the walk with the indigenous Veddha. All so friendlz and so few tourists and so not commercial…

From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was peaceful, welcoming, and incredibly relaxing. The staff were some of the friendliest people we've met - always respectful, attentive, and never intrusive. They really let you unwind and enjoy the natural surroundings at your own pace. We had booked the bed & breakfast option through Booking.com, but ended up having all our lunches and dinners at the lodge as well - and we’re so glad we did. Every meal was fantastic, with fresh ingredients and a great variety of dishes. There’s nothing else nearby food-wise, but honestly, you wouldn’t want to eat anywhere else! The view from the main lodge and the pool is absolutely stunning. It’s the perfect spot to relax between activities or just take in the beauty of the place. One of the most unique aspects of the stay is that each lodge gets assigned its own naturalist, which made the experience feel really personal and enriching. Ours was incredible - super knowledgeable, warm, and passionate about the wildlife and the environment. We did almost all the activities offered, including a boat safari (where we saw elephants, crocodiles, and a huge variety of wildlife), nature walks, a bicycle ride, and birdwatching tours. Everything was well-organized and full of amazing sightings and moments. The rooms are beautifully designed, blending in perfectly with the surroundings while still feeling luxurious and comfortable. The air conditioning was a welcome feature, and the bathroom design is something you just have to experience - rustic yet refined, open yet private. We left Gal Oya feeling completely refreshed and connected to nature. It’s a place we’ll never forget and would 100% recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful, immersive, and genuinely special stay.

One of the best places we stayed in Sri Lanka, so incredibly unique with amazing experiences on offer. The staff were fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. Of course the boat trip was one of the highlights but definitely try out the Jungle Cooking class...... so much fun. The bungalows were huge and well thought out. There is no internet or TV's but of course we knew that and it all added to the charm of the place. We are going back next year!

We LOVED Gal Oya lodge. It was such a highlight of our trip - off grid bliss paired with gorgeous facilities, delicious food, lovely swimming pool and fab activities. We will definitely be back! The staff went above and beyond, especially Kalana who was the most exceptional guide on our hike up Shadow Mountain.

An incredible place to stay. The lodge is wonderful, beautifully and sustainably designed, and located just outside the magnificent, little visited Gal Oya national park. The rooms, all located in independent cottages, are gorgeous, the food is delicious and creative, and the staff is a delight. But what truly makes your trip special are the many activities on offer, and the knowledge and enthusiasm of the in-house naturalists, always keen to share their love of the outstanding local nature, as well as details of the lodge's inspiring environmental and community projects. Do not miss out on the boat safari.

“Enjoyable stay in the middle of the jungle.”

Very beautiful resort in the middle of the jungle. We only stayed one night, but felt like we should have spent longer. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We had multiple activities organised throughout our stay with Gal Oya Lodge. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The facilities at the property were in very good condition.

“A unique and amazing stay in a peaceful national park, amid forest, mountains and lakes.”

Early morning and evening walks in the peaceful countryside with a staff naturalist (included in room charge) were instructive and interesting. A wonderful boat safari (additional charge) to Senanayake Samudra lake where we saw many birds and lone elephants on two islands was a highlight. The swimming pool was very welcome in the very hot weather. Our cottage was comfortable and cool enough with fans, open windows and mosquito nets. My sister and I shared a one-bedroom cottage; staff made up an extra bed with mosquito net. Staff very attentive, and food was delicious. Non-tipping policy with a gratuity box was helpful as there were so many staff.
