Our room was big and had a lovely view of the port. Quiet and traditional luxury. The breakfast was amazing. Staff also amazing.

“An authentic-feeling ryokan experience in a lovely space.”

This was a unique experience, and a wonderful one. The little suite of rooms is dark and elegant, with a panelled sitting room with a tatami floor, and a beautiful spacious bedroom full of character. The private onsen and courtyard are magical - full of birdsong in the morning, and romantic at night. The breakfast was sensational and unexpected - beautifully presented, extensive and delicious. We had a wonderful stay.

Very unique property in a quaint town and a good location. The hotel is spread out over several original houses in an area of the town all a very short walk from the main building and restaurant. The exterior of the residences are conserved, but the interiors are fully renovated to a modern standard and are very beautiful. Staying at this property makes you feel like you are part of the town which is, itself, very quaint. The food is fantastic and I wills highly recommend the had board option. The staff are very friendly and helpful. All around a beautiful and unique property. We will definitely be coming back.

“Nice vibe but bad soundproofing”

Nice and comfy bed. Very cozy, nice lighting. Renovated historical building with modern utilities, kinda like Nipponia if you’ve ever stayed at one of those.

Beautiful historic building. I really felt we travelled back in time. Great location. Very helpful staff that made great effort to communicate in English. Delicious dinner and breakfast.

“Private Garden, Pure Tranquility”

This was one of the nicest rooms we ever had - it was cozy, it had very nice Japanese details like the tiny private garden and the living area, and as a bonus, you even get a private bath facing the garden! Not to mention it was only few of minutes away from both the harbour and the temple.

Incredibly cozy and well thought. Lighting was soft, designs and choices of colors, arrangement and choice of furniture well thought. Also great bathing products, hair never felt so soft.

Nice Ryokan room with lots of space and private courtyard

The room was very very nice, such an amazing old restored house!! Loved the high wooden roof, and the facilities were amazing. Great location, really nice they left tea and coffee. Two very large beds. The bathroom was very nice. Everything was super super clean. Loved everything. They drove our bags for us from one hotel to the next to be next to the shuttle bus location so we could keep exploring the town on our last day. You can use the onsen facilities in the other sister hotels, and the one we visited had amazing views. Would definitely stay there again. I wish I could stay there again soon!!

Shimizu-san communicated with me prior to arrival. On the day snd was very helpful. The service from check-in to being driven to the property, to the welcome and guidance from Shimizu-san, the breakfast and then the assistance at check out was excellent. The room I stayed in was fantastic to experience, and is super close to the Port area and the historic buildings of the town.

“Beautiful stay in Tomonoura”

It had to be one of the best accommodations we stayed in as we explored the seaside of Japan. Our room was soooo beautiful! Every detail, every piece of furniture, was an art. We couldn't help but regret shortening our stay to fully enjoy our hotel. And did I mention we had the best hosts? The hotel staff were so friendly and knowledgeable. They made our stay extra special. Kudos to Shimizu and Miyuki. Can't wait go back.

Design & quality of the historic renovated buildings, full service kitchen with all utensils provided, the kind & efficient cleaning staff (especially Yasuko); tasty & generous lunch at the Ofutei hotel restaurant; the onsen; the terrace of our room; the location; the shuttle bus service, tge communication... loved everything really! Would go back for sure. Such beautiful spaces.

“Beautifully renovated old building in a quiet and beautiful old fishing village”

The property was great. The room we stayed in was in a renovated traditional old building, and was very comfortable. Facilities were clean and new. Bath was big and nice, which also was half open-air to our own small courtyard. Meals were very nice and tasty. Neighborhood is a quiet and beautiful fishing village. Parking was easy which is right in front of the property. Staff were super friendly and helpful. It was raining heavily when we arrived at the sister hotel where we were supposed to check-in from. Staff there were helpful and get us seated in the lobby and then arrange another staff to lead us to where we would actually stay. We felt well taken care of since the first moment. Very nice experience.

“Very odd experience not set up for tourism.”

Room was nice, hotel itself didn’t feel like a hotel rather more like a extension of “ sister hotel” Ofutei where you would initially check in. Very odd arrangement as Shiomachi hotel at no stage felt to me like actual hotel. Staff tried their best.
