The staff were friendly and helpful We arrived an hour before check in and they accommodated us. I loved their little dog who seemed to be the ryokan mascot. It was great value for money and we enjoyed the breakfast.

“It’s slowly getting really old”

It was once a very nice ryokan, I’m sure. We still went for it because of the excellent location, and we wanted to experience a ryokan while still in Japan. We got to understand other, not such great reviews though - it’s a really old place. The breakfast they serve is yummy, although you need to make sure it’s reserved for you. It’s a „passable” experience but would not do it again. It’s a bit too old and thus expensive for the price they ask. There is a cute dog in front which our son liked a lot :)

“Cheaply built and barely maintained ryokan that should get some renovations done”

Rustic old town house has its charms and finding a ryokan with traditional tatami rooms in the middle of a city as large as Fukuoka is difficult. Yamamoto ryokan offers this type of dwelling while still being in the heart of the city.

Good, comfortable room. Enjoyed having the bath available and proximity to Hakata station was perfect.

I liked the traditional vibe of the ryokan, you can book to use the big family bath, the breakfast was nice, the lady was really sweet. They also have a cute shiba dog!

Very comfortable futon bed, friendly owner, short walk to Gion or Hakata station, konbini in the neighbouring building.

“Great old school place in central location”

Spacious room & clean. down to earth, no-frills, traditional Ryokan. A bit of a time travel which we appreciated a lot as foreigners. Unbeatable value for money given the central location. You only need to know what you're booking...;-)

Very traditional set up. If you want to experience the real Japanese Ryokan then this is the one.

Small family run inn close to the centre of the city. Traditional style rooms. Surprisingly quiet area. Good value for money.

It was my first time staying at a Ryokan, so overall I had a good experience. The room was quite nice and breakfast provided was quite good. The staff didn't speak much English but communicated well.

A really nice place to stay, the staff is really friendly and the rooms are big for an traditionell Ryokan. The breakfast was great and felt like home. I will definitely come and visit again!
