“Best stay close to Koyasan”
The service was really outstanding, they made our stay and experience in Koyasan so much better and easier. They picked us up from the closest train station and brought us to Koyasan. They also gave us very good tips to spend there the day, and they were super friendly and kind with us. Additionally both breakfast and dinner were really good.

“Wondeful”
The hosts Akemi and Sekine really went out of their way to make this a personliased experience for us. They picked us up from Koyasan and even took us shopping for souvenirs ! Before getting there I had lots of questions about places to visit and taking part in a fire ceremony at a temple and Akemi gave very useful tips , that helped us make the most of our visit. The stay itself was memorable for the great evening we had with Sekine and Akemi , exchanging stories, learning about the history of the area- using Google translate, gestures and smiles after enjoying great home cooked food and Sake. Theirs is a small town nestled in the hills and if you fancy an exprience away from the cities in rural Japan this really is it. The following morning they drove us to Hashimoto station , making it easier to catch a train back to Osaka . On the way they took us to a historical vilage fro the Edo period which I had mentioned to them that I was facinated with ( having visited a site in Kyoto). I would say this was one of our top highlights from the visit to Japan and also in my experience of travelling over the last 15 years, Sekine and Akemi are probably the best hosts I have came across. Highly recommend Guesthouse Fuki Juku!

“A wonderful stay with fabulous, hospitable hosts, off the beaten track. Highly recommend!!”
A wonderful and memorable stay with lovely hosts, full of warmth and hospitality. The home is truly Japanese and the food absolutely out of this world and pure vegetarian as we had required. We all felt incredibly lucky to have found this gem and away from the tourist area. Koyasan was a 45 minute drive away and mesmerising and pretty quiet. Thanks to Akemi and Tomo, our wonderful hosts ❤️

The location was as advertised, and the area was peaceful. We were very happy with our stay here, it felt like staying with family :)

“The house is retro, the food exceptional , the hosts engaging and supportive - a wonderful experience.”
Set in a village in the hills, the property is as a Japanese house would have been in the 60s. The hosts support you in the morning and evening and then the occupants of the two bedrooms are left alone.

“A beautiful stay in the Japanese countryside”
Believe all of the excellent reviews - this is a unique stay in a beautiful guesthouse in the Wakayama countryside. I wish I had been able to stay another night as it was so peaceful and relaxing, with excellent hospitality from the hosts. Also the fact that they offer pick up and drop off to koyasan/the train station makes it possible to get there even if you’re not driving, which is a big plus as a lone traveller!

“Best stay in Japan!”
We loved everything about our stay at Fuki Juku. The place is authentic, beds are comfortable, common areas are inviting. The owners of the place are enthusiastic, great story tellers, happy to provide detailed information about Koyasan, which is a 45 min drive away. The food they prepare is delicious and clearly made with much love and care. Its presentation is beautiful and the atmosphere during dinner is full of joy! My daughter, my husband and I spent 2 nights and felt very much at home! We would absolutely go back! Can only recommend it!!!

really quaint place to stay, with lots of opportunities to interact with the lovely hosts and perhaps other guests. we were blessed to have met a friendly and interesting couple on our 1 night here! homecooked comfort food vibes for both meals, which we enjoyed tremendously, and we slept very well. would absolutely recommend this place if you are passing through. your hosts will go out of their way to make your stay a great one and also offer advice for the rest of your itinerary.

This was truly an exceptional and authentic experience. The hosts were incredibly welcoming, warm, and talkative, making us feel right at home. They went the extra mile to ensure everything went smoothly during our stay — all without ever making us feel pressured. “A sacred stay I’ll never forget”
A sacred stay I’ll never forget Staying at this guesthouse in Fuki was an absolute blessing. Akemi and Tomo are truly special people—so kind, thoughtful, and welcoming. I felt safe, cared for, and deeply supported throughout my stay. Their warmth and presence made all the difference, especially as I was traveling solo. The guesthouse itself is a beautifully preserved traditional Japanese home, full of charm and quiet energy. The village, with only around 200 people, offers an authentic glimpse into life near Kōyasan—deeply connected to nature, community, and spirituality. I was incredibly lucky to have the entire house to myself, and even more so to receive a private tour of Kōyasan from the hosts, which was personal and full of insight. Although the weather was unexpectedly cold for this time of year, the hosts did their best to keep the space warm, offering extra blankets and heaters. Just be aware that heaters typically can’t be left on overnight, so it can get chilly. Even with that, I would absolutely rate the stay as exceptional. The home-cooked breakfasts and dinners were a highlight—delicious, nourishing, and made with so much care. I also spent a peaceful day resting, reading, writing, and enjoying the slow rhythm of the village. It was a deeply grounding and meaningful experience. If you’re looking for something quiet, real, and full of heart, this is the place. I left feeling incredibly grateful.

Amazing guesthouse! Very Japanese style countryside guesthouse. Very delicious traditional Japanese home-style dinner and breakfast. If you wanna visit Koyasan but do not want to live in the temple, definitely a perfect choice! The host is very kind and offer free pick-up service from hashimoto station and drop-off service in the morning at Koyasan. He knows very well about the history and the tour guide of Koyasan. He gives me a very detailed introduction to Koyasan and helps me to drop off luggage in the station as well.

“Brilliant and memorable stay, we felt very welcome and at home!”
We loved our stay with the exceptionally kind and helpful couple. It’s a remote village up a steep mountain road, with a great bar next door! The food was delicious. We enjoyed chatting to the hosts. We had a trip to Mt Koyasan and got drenched in a rain storm. The kind hosts dried our shoes in a special Japanese machine!

“The most beautiful and peaceful place of our whole Japan trip.”
We were picked up at Hashimoto station. Quick 30 min drive through beautiful nature. Breakfast and dinner were more than excellent. Lovely atmosphere. Nicest hosts. We felt so welcome. Peaceful place to relax after travelling the big cities of Japan. Comfortable bedroom. Lots of space. Lots of privacy. Beautiful view, beautiful scenery. Very calm neighbourhood. Highly recommend to everyone travelling this beautiful country.
