Absolutely the best place we stayed in Japan. Amazing location, spectacular accommodation. Hosts were very welcoming and accommodating. Would recommend this stay to anyone visiting Japan 100%.

The private ofuroba was amazing! We also enjoyed the A5 class wagyu beef dinner. The hospitality was excellent! Thank you so much for the stay !

Wonderful stay at a traditional Japanese home with our very own onsen.

Out of the way, but not so far that you cannot walk to the main areas around the town.

We stayed in Hidamari. It was a pleasure staying in a traditional Japanese house, made from wood. Beautiful timber beams in the roof, the flooring planks were excellent, like visiting a temple; solid, smooth and enjoyable to walk on. The house was clean, neat and tidy with an old world charm about it. Beds very comfy. The bathroom was a highlight; all cedar, traditional style with wooden stool/bucket and looking out to a garden. Very relaxing. In addition, the living room sliding doors open to a lovely view across to the mountains, was great having a coffee (delicious) in the morning. Although we didn`t cook, the utensils etc looked pretty capable. If you do wish to cook, best to buy groceries from the local Salva supermarket, back on the main road heading into town before arrival. Also to note: 1) the restaurant not open for dinner - need to order dinner 3 days ahead for in-room dining. 2) The farm across the road (at reception) has an enjoyable property with a nice walk down the hill, plus amazing soft serve!!

Traditional Japanese house experience

“Great stay, needs little fixes.”

Stayed at kawami. Great location and very spacious. Having your own Onsen and zengarden makes this a place absolutely worth staying at! For the rest it's a house with multiple rooms in the traditional style which we loved.

“Perfect traditional stay”

This Ryokan/cottage is perfect for a home stay style Airbnb near Mt Fuji and all its attractions. There is a beautiful cedar bath with picture windows over looking the natural beauty of the forest. There is a fire pit in the living room/dining area. There is an option of Western beds with nice firm mattresses or futon for those who prefer the floor. The property is traditional and not modernised - the fully wooden wet room is as it should be and shows signs of use which may confuse some Westerners - it is meant to be like this and will be repaired and replaced over time - please expect this. The staff were so lovely and helpful in finding the property and explaining how it worked. The kitchen has a small toaster oven, microwave and stove for convenience. There are free toiletries and amenities. I highly recommend this stay.

“A hidden gem”

After the initial hiccup with the booking, the overall stay at this place was one of the memorable moments of our Japan trip. The house we stayed in was nestled in the forest, surrounded by trees all around. It is far away from the town yet close enough for a quick dash if you need something. The house itself was self sufficient with all the modern amenities. Absolutely loved our stay there, it is highly recommend. We’ll certainly like to go there again.

“Lovely Place with Heroic Staff!”

The staff member who saved us on our first night from Kawaguchiko Station was exceptional! Drove us to the reception, checked us in, lent us two mobile chargers for the two nights as I had misplaced the one we were using and drove us to our cottage! A real hero. In terms of the rooms, they were amazing. The beds were comfortable. The toilet and bath was separate which was ideal for us and the toilet was the most high tech one we'd experienced since being in Japan. The general aesthetic of it all was really nice and the appliances were great. The free toiletries were a bonus and we got a free welcome bottle of bubbles which was unexpected.

The house itself was a nice traditional style. Located very close to locations with beautiful views of Mt.Fuji.

Shikitei was in a great location for our travel interests (Mt. Fuji, Lake Kawaguchiko, Oshino Hakkai) and the proprietor was very welcoming. Our reservation was messed up a bit, but management had no issues accommodating us. As a family of 6, we had plenty of space in the smaller cabin and very much enjoyed the rustic feel of the room and location. We were also generously provided a bottle of sparkling wine, which was a lovely gesture.
