Kahere Retreat was a wonderful stay for us. Very peaceful and tranquil. The owners were very accommodating and quick to reply to any questions. A short 5 minute drive into Franz Josef township. Would happily recommend to friends and family and stay here again in the future.

Location was great if you have a car. The surrounds are lovely. The sauna and spa were an added bonus the kitchen and lounge facilities were good although a small table would be good to eat at rather than 2 couches

Peaceful location

The location to Franz Joseph glacier was fantastic. Each individual chalet was located to ensure privacy . Easy to gain entry to the chalet .

We LOVED this place, it was an absolute highlight of the trip. The cosy cottage was perfect for exploring the surrounding areas and we really enjoyed the bonus of a sauna after a long day in the cold. The beds were comfy and it was fun sleeping together in the attic. The bathroom was really something else and merits its own review, the decor being beautiful. We would definitely stay again if we get the chance.

“Booking canceled last minute.”

Our booking at Kahere Retreat in Franz Josef was confirmed back in January for our April 2 stay, and we paid the full amount in March. However, just one day before arrival — while we were already traveling with kids — we received a message that the property was overbooked and our booking had been canceled. This was a very stressful and disappointing situation, especially as we were already approaching Franz Josef. Judith, the host, was apologetic and explained that the issue occurred due to a scheduling error in their booking planner. She offered a refund or suggested an alternative place nearby, but that option wasn’t to our taste. We ourselves found another suitable accommodation, and Judith kindly helped finalize the booking and adjust our payment so that it matched our original amount. While we appreciate her assistance and understanding, the last-minute cancellation was highly inconvenient and unprofessional, particularly when traveling with children. It caused unnecessary stress and could have been much worse if we hadn’t found another place in time. Hopefully, this kind of booking issue is resolved for future guests.

Cute little cabins and quiet peaceful surroundings. We enjoyed our night stay. The beds were comfy. Also enjoyed the spa.
