Offering accommodation with free WiFi, satellite TV and lovely mountain views, Rainforest Motel is 5 minutes’ drive from Lake Matheson. Guests can enjoy the gardens overlooking Mount Fox. All apartments have a kitchenette or kitchen with a microwave and refrigerator. Each heated apartment includes electric blankets and a seating area with a TV. There are a range of cafes within a 5-minute walk from the property. Rainforest Motel is 30 minutes’ drive from Gillespies Beach. Hokitika is a 2-hour drive away. The tour desk can book helicopter flights and guided walking tours. The motel also offers a guest laundry and luggage storage facilities. Free parking is available on site.

Recommendation from the staff asking us to take a photo of the Fox Glacier before sunset. Due to the next day it was predicted to rain. Fortunately we listened and had great photos of Fox Glacier.

We had a wonderful stay at Rainforest Motel and honestly wished we had planned to stay longer. We arrived in Fox Glacier at around 5pm and had to leave the next morning at 10am, so our time there was very limited. However, the owner, Mr. Andy, was exceptionally friendly, welcoming and hospitable. After learning that we only had a short stay, he thoughtfully recommended Betsey Jane Eatery & Bar next to the motel for dinner, which turned out to be an excellent suggestion. After dinner, we sat outside our room and were amazed by the beautiful starry sky in the peaceful darkness of Fox Glacier. The next morning, we followed Mr. Andy’s recommendations to visit a nearby lake and viewpoint, where we enjoyed stunning glacier scenery before continuing our journey. The motel itself was spotlessly clean, comfortable and surprisingly well-equipped. From the outside, it may appear simple and modest, but once inside, we were genuinely impressed by the quality of the facilities and the attention to comfort. It truly felt like a hidden gem surrounded by nature. We were extremely satisfied with the overall experience and felt it offered outstanding value for money. If I were to suggest one small improvement, it would be adding an extractor fan in the bathroom for extra comfort. Overall, this was a fantastic stay, and one of our only regrets was not planning to stay for 3 days and 2 nights instead of such a short visit.

“Best stay on whole west coast”
Best property in our entire trip to New Zealand, regardless of price range. The rooms are so beautiful with loads of amenities. Heck they even have dyson hair dryer and room fan (heater, cooler). The owner is kind and talkative, he made sure we feel comfortable. Property is amazing and has benches to sit and soak in the views. Don’t even think of booking any other stay while visiting Fox glacier, it was just perfect.

This was a well situated motel at Fox Glacier. Whilst it was an older place the facilities were well stocked and clean with comfortable beds. Friendly staff.
