“Immerse yourself into the environment of the ranch and enjoy a great experience”
The property on arrival looked exactly like it's pictures, the staff where friendly and helpful. We meet one of the farm dogs whom took us for a walk across the paddock to the creek where it went for a swim. Back at the ranch we meet the friendly hosts, dinner is a communal affair were you meet the other guests, on our first night was an amazing BBQ of local food. Our hosts enjoyed telling stories around the dinner table, it's here we learnt of the travels of the other guests and their recommendations within Uruguay. The next morning we went for a horse ride and off across the paddock with the dogs we understood why this is the land of the gaucho, the horses are so well trained and followed the instructions of the gaucho. The few days at the ranch went quickly and was the highlight of our trip to Uruguay

“Loved it”
Location was fabulous, great to see the Uruguayan countryside. Easy to get to the ranch by bus to Florida from Montevideo and Carmen kindly helped us with taxis to and from the terminal. Food was delicious and very glad we booked full board. Really enjoyed our horse rides and we were made to feel comfortable given that we had not ridden before. Lovely to meet and chat to other like minded travellers who also appreciated the unspoilt, rustic nature of El Ceibo. We were so lucky that a troop of gauchos came by the ranch whilst we were there, truly made our stay wonderful.

“Great stay”
A great stay at el Ceibo. Joselo was a great host and took me round the Estancia and told me a lot about Uruguay. I was the only person there because it was midweek. He arranged pickup from Florida bus station. Horse riding was good for complete beginners like me. Transfer and horse riding cost approx $25 each. It’s such a relaxing place. Definitely stay here especially if you’re looking for an estancia relatively close to Montevideo.

“Getaway from the big cities to relax at the campo”
The whole experience was great. Especially to get away from the big cities and get a feel for how the gauchos used to live back in the day was great! We had a full plate service as well with freshly prepared meals which were tasty. Pickup was well arranged

The breakfast was good. The lunch and dinner were very good. We did not need a huge lunch but there is a set price for both lunch and dinner. So if you take any lunch, you pay the full price. The facilities are very old, so the room was not as pristine as some might expect in a hotel. However, the bathroom was clean and the bedding was very clean and comfortable. The location was relaxing and the hosts were very accommodating.

“A not to be missed stay in the countryside.”
The food was the best I had all trip. Talking to the hosts I learned a lot about Uruguay that I wouldn’t have learned any other way.

“Laidback country experience - walking, riding, relaxing and eating. A historic place with rustic charm.”
This is a genuine country experience on an estancia that’s been there since the mid-1800s. Owners Carmen and Joselo are backed up by gaucho Mario who manages the horses and sheep, as well as the estancias grounds a d gardens, and accompanied us on our horse riding along with his two sheepdogs; Lorene, who cooked us three fantastic meals each day (and Joselo who fires up the wood stove to cook assado!) and our housekeeper whose name I don’t know but who was always smiling and friendly and looked after us too. Beautiful starry skies, lovely walks to the river and lagoon, lots of birdlife, great selection of books and artefacts. Feels like family, but with as much of your own space as you want. And an ‘honesty bar’ to enhance the magnificent sunsets!

“Peace in Paradise. A lovely Estancia run by fabulous people”
A fabulous 3 days at Estancia El Ceibo. We were made to feel like family by Joselu, Carmen and the team. The peace, serenity and beauty of the place is difficult to adequately put into words. We just loved it. We walked in the forest (saved by Mario!!), wandered in the fields, rode horses, ate delicious food and then just chilled and read. 3 days flew by. We would highly recommend and again, so many thanks to everyone at Estancia El Ceibo for making us feel so welcome.

“A highlight of our time in Uruguay”
Experience the culture of Uruguay at an estancia close to Montevideo. Fields with sheep and horses grazing. A lagoon and river with many birds. A sky full of stars and no city lights. The owners, Carmen and Joselo are warm and welcoming, full of stories and good humor. We soon felt like family. We enjoyed the company and lively conversations with other guests staying at the estancia as we sat together for dinner. The staff is very friendly and a pleasure to talk with. The food-breakfast, lunch and dinner was delicious. I'm a vegetarian and I had no shortage of choices. Joselo is a master of asado which my husband enjoyed greatly. Really exceptional cooking. Horseback riding is available for all levels of ability, along with long, lovely walks through the fields. We enjoyed our stay and would love to return.

“Warm, fun, comfortable, good food, horse riding …”
The property is a historic family home over 150 years old and owned by this family for over 30years. The owners and all the staff were warm and welcoming. We loved the food and the horse riding. The asada was melt in the mouth and every meal there was a different vegetarian tart as an option. Mario the gaucho is very patient and very cool. Joselo took us in his jeep and gave us a lot of information about local nature. Carmen has a great personality. All these things are a bonus.

“One of the best experiences during our visit to Uruguay.”
We were able to go horse riding on Pampas; one of the greatest experiences during our visit to Uruguay. There were very nice dogs (10 out of 10) and a cat (10 out of 10) that was highly appreciated by our kids. The surroundings very very much a Pampas experince. The dinner that was made on the Parilla while we watched was great.

“An authentic and relaxing estancia stay”
Carmen and Joselo were incredibly welcoming. I really enjoyed sharing mealtimes with them, and getting to know the stories of their life and the estancia. The location is wonderfully remote and peaceful, but an easy drive from Montevideo. Horse trekking around the estancia, the local wildlife (fireflies, humming birds, insects, frogs), and plenty of spots for reading a book made for a very relaxing weekend stay
